Understanding your mate will assist in forgiveness and the healing process can begin which is essential to restoring any relationship.
Everyone struggles with a variety of issues and we are dedicated to their healthy growth and development. I utilize play therapy for children and a cognitive behavioral approach for adolescents as well as adults. Through the journey of self discovery you can become more aware of how your decisions have been affecting your life. This awareness leads to an understanding of yourself and how you can change these patterns to improve your life potential. I believe there is hope in all circumstances and we are all a work in progress.

Life today presents us with many challenges, which are often difficult to navigate. As a clinical social worker/therapist, I believe that the therapeutic relationship can help create positive choices in client's lives. I have worked in domestic violence (emotional, verbal, financial and physical) for 18 years, with an emphasis on overcoming unhealthy relationships and moving on to more positive relationship choices. The goal is often to be your best self, increasing self-esteem, decreasing anxiety and/or depression and ultimately increasing your ability to adapt and thrive.

If you are ready to roll up your sleeves and commit to doing the work necessary to create a meaningful and healthy relationship with yourself and others, I would love to help.
I help people just like you find balance peace and joy within themselves and their most significant relationships. Maybe your relationship has reached a crisis point and you are feeling frustrated or overwhelmed. Or, maybe your busy life has left little time for your relationship and your partner is beginning to feel like a roommate, or even worse, a stranger. Feeling disconnected in your relationship was never part of the plan. Then again, the current challenges you’re experiencing may be coming from a past trauma that never healed, a transition to a new chapter of your life, or a search to truly connect with your authentic self.

Though sometimes formidable, devoting space to articulate your concerns in a trusting environment is deeply rewarding work that brings dynamics and acceptance back into your life and tools of communication into your relationship.
At some point, the tools that we use to get through life can begin to fall short. Your reasons for considering therapy may be clearly or barely understood. You’d like to experience more agency and acceptance, make better sense of your life, and relate more honestly to the people that matter to you. If you’ve come looking for help with your partner, there is both a critical need and a deeply-seeded desire for things to improve between you, and the time has come for to invest in that outcome. You are struggling to function in your current phase of life, whether anew or for a long time now.

We will explore your past, present, and hopes for the future through a lens of self-reflection with the purpose of deepening your relationship with yourself and others.
We often come into therapy with a particular problem at hand. Perhaps it's difficulty navigating a life transition, relationship troubles, grief, identity development or one of the many other tensions that can come up throughout the life cycle. I provide an insight-oriented approach that emphasizes curiosity about the self and profound trust within the therapeutic relationship. This allows us to better understand and manage the initial problem bringing you into therapy as well as facilitating a truly healing experience of deep self understanding and acceptance.

Are you seeking resilience in uncertain times? My approach to therapy combines psychodynamic training with CBT, finding practical solutions to problems. This means that you and I will work together to find both the "why" of what you bring to therapy (childhood development, history, and social context) and the "what" (how to change what you want to change). I tend to work with high achievers who feel there is something lacking in their personal lives and relationships. I work with adults, as well as adolescents in high school or college/graduate school. I see both individuals and couples who want to make meaningful changes.

I believe in the ability of the therapeutic relationship to resolve conflict and develop insight and positive change.
The challenges of today's world wear heavily on couples. What we believed counted may now seem undependable, even impossible to understand. Intimacy and relationships are stressed and additional conflict may be too much to handle. This is exactly the time to consider professional help. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist, a Diplomate in Clinical Sex Therapy and have analytic training as well as EMDR. My expertise blends psychodynamic, cognitive, and relational perspectives. A very powerful combination. I maintain a strong network of professional colleagues to provide the best integrative care ie/medical and holistic perspectives.

With over 15 years experience in hospital and residential treatment settings I have learned that the counselor and client relationship is essential to the therapeutic process and strive to create a safe, trusting space.
My focus as a therapist is to learn from clients the areas of life - relationships, work, school, substance use - where they feel “stuck” and to work together to strategize ways to become “unstuck”. Setting goals and making progress towards those goals is paramount for clients to feel successful in the therapy process. I like to support clients in finding practical ways to start the change process and to help them maintain their motivation.

Couples therapy can provide you with healthy habits for your relationship. Personal counseling can help you save yourself instead of everyone else all the time. Don't suffer alone. There are skills, solutions and remedies available for you, as well as for your spouse.

I also employ an intensive weekend retreat format for a couple working through relationship traumas and impasses.
My practice is located in Southport, CT. While my approach is tailored to each unique individual (no manualized therapy here!), our focus will be on improving quality of life. In essence, I help you learn more effective ways to manage painful feelings, anxieties, and memories, while building more loving relationships. I specialize with couples, as well as individuals who need to grow and thrive after suffering with addictions and trauma. We work together intensively to improve self-care and confidence. I enjoy group work because it provides a powerful setting for expressing feelings, shedding shame, and creating intimacy.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
