This includes emotionally focused, family systems, attachment theory, DBT and CBT, all within a trauma informed framework.
My area of focus is sexuality and relationships. I primarily work with lgbtqia+ folks, and individuals who seek work around family dysfunction and attachment wounds. I love working with clients who are searching to find comfort in their own identity and future. My passion is driven by helping people who have yet to find their voice, and those who are searching for healthier relationships. I love helping individuals to find their sense of self worth, improve their boundaries, and feel fulfilled in their every day lives. I am gender affirming, and an ally to marginalized populations everywhere.

Are you feeling anxious about the world right now? Anxiety can bring up many questions along with feeling out of control and ultimately cause strain on our lives and relationships. As a trained Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) therapist, I am passionate about working with couples to establish ways to deepen their bond and strengthen the connection they long for. As an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing-trained therapist, I use EMDR to help clients who have experienced trauma to find long-lasting healing through restructuring negative beliefs into healthy, positive emotional freedom.

Are you tired of feeling disconnected from yourself? Do you feel like you need to get rid of old ways of thinking so you can fully be yourself again? When you go through trauma, stress, loss, and confusion in life, it changes the way you see the world because you never, ever want to experience that again. You start to move through the world doing everything to avoid the risk of these horrible things ever happening again. This way works for a while, but over time you feel disconnected- from the world, those you love, and yourself. If you are ready to get rid of these ways of thinking and live fully in the world, I can help.

Asking for help can take much energy and courage. I approach each client with this in mind knowing what it takes to open up to another person. Each individual/couple comes to therapy with unique concerns/issues so I work with this in ensuring the treatment is geared specifically to the individual/couple. I view the therapeutic relationship as a collaboration between the therapist and the client. As such, we work together to integrate your ideals and values into the treatment so that changes are easier to implement and maintain.

Change is an elemental force, often imposing its will on us when we least expect it. It can also be one of the most elusive things in our lives when we try to enact it on our own. Understanding our relationship to change, and what prevents it, provides us the opportunity to harness its power in our own lives. Understanding how your experiences and systemic forces have impacted your life will also be key to our work together as we build a new path forward for you. You have all the energy to enact change inside of you, the next step is determining what prevents this.

I have successfully worked with adults and children, couples and families, with both common and complex needs. My approach focuses on experiential awareness and processing, while working through present day thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is holistic in that it views symptoms as attempts at coping. We work together establishing a calm place within you, through the enhancement of personal awareness, resources, and developing coping strategies; we then progress beyond coping skills, moving through the roots of old learning so that your change is lasting, and from the inside out.

Congratulations on taking the first step towards a more balanced, purposeful and meaningful journey through life. In order to create change, we need insight, awareness and safety. Change rarely happens alone, and through our ability to connect from a place of non-judgement, we can work together to identify issues, examine solutions, create new avenues for growth and gain new skills needed to tackle life's challenges.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
