I use mindfulness & Internal Family Systems therapy to help clients resolve their underlying trauma and grief issues that get in the way of having fulfilling lives and relationships. I combine warmth and compassionate listening with teaching clients skills to learn to better manage their feelings, including anxiety and depression, while using breathing, body-centered, and other spiritual principles to help clients heal. Clients will learn to heal themselves and build more satisfying relationships and futures for themselves and their families. The techniques I use apply well to both children and adults to help clients deal with adverse behaviors and addictions.

You never know what it's like until you experience it. You can read all the books, watch all the videos, and seek all the advice that you can find; it will never fully prepare you for the journey of motherhood or expectations of being a woman. Entering adulthood is one of the purest forms of transformation one can go through. For example, some journeys to motherhood are easier than others, and unfortunately, some journeys to motherhood are never obtained. Everyone experiences a period of adjustment in their own way. It’s hard juggling responsibilities while including yourself in the equation.

Adults are facing unique challenges as they navigate today’s world. Whether they are trying to manage the stress of changes at work and home, parenting in an ever-changing society, or trying to adjust to identity changes during midlife, people are realizing that support helps. Many people - especially men - have begun discovering that the education and skill-building that comes from therapeutic support is helpful; others are considering therapy for the first time. I've worked as a therapist for over 30 years. Wherever you are in your thinking, I am here to help you decide whether therapy is something you want to explore.

Are you experiencing unhealthy habits such as overeating, arguments in relationships, or difficulties at work? Learning about how feelings/emotions affect thoughts, how thoughts affects behavior, and learning how to self-regulate when feeling overwhelmed can be helpful with understanding one’s emotions. I help my clients by using interpersonal effectiveness tools for healthy communication that can help reduce/decrease symptoms of depression and anxiety. I also incorporate cultural factors into my therapeutic work

No matter how big or small you think your problems might be, seeking help is not easy, it takes courage, and I applaud you for trying to improve your life. I've been a therapist for nearly 20 years and have assisted clients in feeling happier, less stressed, closer to the significant people in their lives, rejuvenated to do the things they normally enjoy doing, and viewing themselves and their future in a healthier light. I strive to build a trusting relationship with each person I work with, and I want my clients to feel heard, understood, encouraged, and motivated to make positive change.

First thank you for the opportunity to work with you! I have over 10 years of experience in the counseling field. Your overall well-being is an important factor to having a meaningful and successful life. Having someone who you can talk with and understand your struggles should be important to you. Life has its challenges, that often causes feelings of confusion, hopelessness, and a great amount of stress. We may feel like we don’t have the ability to focus, problem solve and make the best choices based on how we think and feel in the moment. This can lead to feeling symptoms of depression, anxiety, sadness, and loneliness.

Growing up you may have fantasized and planned out how your life as a woman would be -starting a career, meeting "the one", getting married, having kids, and living happily ever after. Then, you started "adulting", and nothing is going as planned. You may be single or unsure about your relationship. Maybe you're having trouble starting a family. There could be feelings of guilt or shame because you're not overjoyed about your baby or family. You are struggling with your pregnancy or your postpartum transition. You are nervous, afraid, and want to feel better but don't know how. Or maybe you're just trying to figure out life. You don't have to feel this way forever. You can feel like yourself again and find your way.

Are you weighed down by worries, regrets, traumas, hurt, or pain? Everyone has a story and should have the opportunity to tell it in a non-judgmental environment. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and my areas of expertise include young through older adults with trauma, depression, anxiety, and substance use/co-occurring disorders. As an eclectic, person-centered therapist I believe in tailoring treatment to each client’s needs, so I do not use one modality across the board. I’ve always been highly empathic and view issues in a destigmatizing way: I don’t ask what is wrong with you, but what happened to you?

I enjoy helping people do their deeper therapeutic work. I've been a social worker for over 30 years, and it continues to feel like a privilege to play the role I do in people’s lives. By day, I support adolescents managing acute crises in my role as a high school Triage Clinician. By night, I turn my attention to adults, who have moved beyond a period of acute crisis and reached a point of stabilization. Many people live their lives with the effects of trauma, and often feel stuck when they try to make powerful transitions or internalize positive changes. This is the area of support I am passionate about.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?

In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?

The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?

An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?

It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?

HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?

Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?

Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.
