Whether you view your problem as a difficult relationship or something difficult that has happened to you, I want to help you understand whats going on and begin working towards a more desired path.
I see a wide variety of clients with different situations and different backgrounds. Each may not know what steps to take to move forward but the one thing that unifies them all is a desire to change. We want to be smarter, to be a better employee, a better parent, a better partner or have a better relationship but there are times where that desire to be better turns into an inner critic. Instead of leading us to be better, it leads to anxiety, depression, a lack of self compassion and a feeling of unrest for where you are at in life. I want to help you create the change and the life you want while learning to deal with the critic.

Waitlist for new clients
In my work with couples, I believe in the importance of building a secure attachment, where each partner is able to express emotions and build trust and commitment.
I seek to provide a honest, compassionate, and nonjudgmental therapeutic environment where individuals, couples, and families are able to explore and accomplish their personal and relational goals. I have a positive, hopeful outlook and work to maintain a strong therapeutic alliance where my clients feel empowered to make choices that are congruent with the person they are and want to be. I utilize evidence based therapy approaches and interventions in a brief therapy process. I work with teens and their families to help them improve their relationships, develop a strong sense of self, and manage mental health concerns.

I offer, CBT, DBT, ACT & Mindfulness, and couples and family therapy as a means of approaching individualized trauma-informed care.
If you are struggling to feel growth and connection in your personal life there are several different areas of focus that can be immensely helpful. While different mental health struggles manifest uniquely, I strive to implement the most relevant forms of care and approach for you personally and positionally. We all come from differing backgrounds and circumstances, yet I believe connection and vulnerability to be universal in terms of alleviating harmful symptoms of depression, anxiety, addiction, and many other struggles.

Clients who are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, boundary or relationship issues, or those in recovery will find Best Practice Counseling to be a safe, gentle landing place to wade through these issues and find solutions together.
Clients who come in ready to work on themselves are leaps and bounds ahead of clients who might be dragging their feet in coming to therapy. If you are ready to change and personally motivated, your progress will be quick and you will get a lot out of the therapeutic process. Brief, solution focused therapy is often the most helpful depending on the client, but my intention is always to start where each individual client is at and work to assist them in their goals and desires for change based on their own strengths.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
