My overall goal for individual clients as well as my couples/families is to learn more about yourself and the people in your life.
You can call me Cathy. Are you stuck in your head, overthinking, and/or experiencing physical symptoms of depression, anxiety or trauma? As we go through the experience of life, we learn things about our environment and how to function within that environment. We are always learning and sometimes our brain solidifies messages that are harmful to our mental health, I want to help you restructure those messages so that they are more accurate or helpful. Additionally, I will assist you in the development of skills to manage strong emotions and finally assist you to form solutions to your problems.

This comes with assessing your closest relationships and the relationship with you hold with yourself.
Currently accepting new clients in South Carolina & Rhode Island. Well, hello there, and congrats on taking the first step towards a better mental health! Seeking help is not easy, but at the same time reminds us that we are all human and need a little guidance at times. Theodore Roosevelt once said, "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are". My ideal client is open, honest, and ready to do just that.

Whether you are having relationship issues, emotional issues or need help with grief and trauma; I am here to help.
It is my mission to help people who are hurting emotionally. It has been my experience that we all go through times when we can use a professional to offer a nonjudgmental, empathetic ear. As a Licenced Marriage and Family Therapist, I see individuals, couples and families. I am a great fit for those who are dedicated and desiring change. I like to give lots of resources and homework yet only if it is preferred by the client. Sometimes life only allows us to have the session time to work on things and that’s okay too.

Knowing this, it is my privilege as your therapist to provide a safe place for you to begin, or continue your personal therapeutic journey. Through the safety of the relationship that is formed in the counseling office, you will be able to explore who and where you are in your life, and uncover thinking and behavior patterns which are getting in your way, as well as uncover the tools you need to change these destructive patterns. It is my hope to help you find that safe place to begin to work toward making the changes you need to live the life you deserve.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
