I work to help adults, children and couples make adjustments in their lives so they are more comfortable and in control of their behaviors and emotions. I have a genuine desire to get to know my clients and understand the difficulties they are experiencing. My therapy combines psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral approaches. I have particular interests helping people who are dealing with issues of depression, anxiety, health concerns, relationship problems, parenting difficulties, substance abuse, ADHD or school performance. Along with work as a psychologist, I have worked as a special education teacher which enhances my understanding of special needs children.

My work with others involves using crises as opportunities for making life changes by reinforcing resilience and developing a more compassionate relationship with oneself.
Understanding the self is the first step toward change. Through compassion, reflection and skill development one has the opportunity to remove obstacles in the form of beliefs, mobilize one's inner resources, reduce suffering and create a more meaningful life. I have worked with adults who have survived trauma/abuse, struggled with problems in mood and thought and experienced self-worth injuries.

As a therapist I work hard to understand my patients at a personal level. I provide a warm and trusting atmosphere where we can explore the difficulties in their lives. Together, through the therapeutic relationship we work on emotional problems to make deep and lasting changes. We address road blocks which may have developed over the years and seem to keep them stuck in negative patterns. Through an increased awareness of these patterns alternative choices can be made by my patients. Working together in therapy my patients are increasingly able to live more fulfilling and meaningful lives.

People identify in a spectrum of gender and relationship configurations.
When you are feeling overwhelmed but aren't sure how things can change, I can help. When you find that you keep making the same mistakes, doing things you promised yourself you would stop, I can help. Behavior changes are more than just applying logic to your situation. If it was only logic, you would have figured it out by now. I focus on how the brain processes experiences. I can provide the space to sort things out and finally change those old patterns.

The secret sauce in therapy is the attachment between us, therefore our relationship is the medicine.
I see you. Quietly pretending everything is fine, scrolling on your phone or bingeing on Netflix. I hear you. All the mistaken beliefs like “I am not good enough, or I am unloveable.” I feel you. All the disappointments carefully tucked away in your heart or unsaid words clogged in your throat. Let’s lighten your heart, mind & body so you can live a life from your highest truth. I am gobsmacked by the power of grief, love, trauma, attachment & joy. I help by integrating life’s most painful experiences. Integration leads to transformation which opens you up to endless possibilities.

Whether you're dealing with relationship distress, problems with your moods, or challenges that are more specific, seeing a therapist can be transformative.
Each year new research emerges highlighting the importance of intimate relationships on personal health and wellness. People who have satisfying connections with family, friends, and their community are happier, have fewer health problems, and live longer. For these reasons, I specialize in helping individuals, couples, and families improve the quality of the relationships they have with themselves and those around them. I provide practical information about intimate, long-term connection (based on current research), and offer specific strategies in response to clients' challenges and problems. My approach is collaborative, experiential, and strengths-based.

I work with couples to fine-tune communication and build closeness.
I'm a licensed MFT and AASECT certified Sex Therapist, located in Minnesota and Arizona. I'll help you find grounded, positive approaches to shift your situation. Whether you're dealing with relationship frustrations or personal issues, it's difficult to wonder if things can get better - and to think you should be able to figure it out on your own. If fights with your partner go nowhere, your sex life is disappointing (or non-existent), you suffer with anxiety or depression, or you or your partner struggle with out of control sexual behavior or drug/alcohol use, I can help. I am engaged and active in sessions.

I believe each person deserves to live the best life possible. Often, that can be a challenge due to difficult things that have happened in the past or current challenges we face. Trauma and hurt effect how we view the world and ourselves. I work with individuals in including teens and adults, as well as couples, to help them get to a better place in their life. We will work together to figure out how move through current and past challenges more effectively so that hope and ease become a part of everyday life.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
