Imago Relationship Therapist, Advanced Clinician; Individual, Couple and Family Therapy; Special Needs Families; Workshops, Groups and Consultations.
Caring for yourself and your relationships is the most important task you will ever have. Paying attention to and nourishing your emotional well being is as important as caring for your physical health. Often I encounter individuals, couples and families struggling with the excessive demands of life in the 21st century. Depression, anxiety and addictions are common in our society. Conflicts and difficulty in communication with those closest to us can often lead to feelings of isolation and despair.

Being a mother is challenging. You have more worries, less time, and no room for "self-care." You may question your abilities, your partner, your career path, and more. You may even be anxious about delivering your baby. Have you completely lost yourself in a sea of stress, worry, and sadness? You are not alone. I am a mother, wife, and survivor of perinatal anxiety. I understand the fluctuating hormones that can cause our mood disturbances. I want to help you to manage your anxiety, replace your depressive thoughts, and understand the chemical changes that cause them. With individual or couples therapy you will be well!

I specialize in treating relationship concerns, anxiety, depression, perfectionism, career concerns, life transitions, navigating college or graduate school, and/or healing from trauma.
Hello, I'm Katie. I'm a licensed Clinical Psychologist with a collaborative, empowering, and supportive approach to therapy. Oftentimes, clients know they want to “go” somewhere in their life or relationships. Sometimes, the destination is not totally clear, and sometimes they know exactly where they want to go but not quite how to get there. We’ll begin by clarifying where you are in your journey- the metaphorical “you are here” dot on your map. Once we clarify where you are, and how you got here, we will work together to determine where you want to go, which route you want to take, and how to move in that direction.

We provide a safe, nurturing, and judgment-free environment for my clients because a good relationship and trust are essential for change.
From childhood through late adulthood, there are certain times when we may need help addressing problems and issues that cause us emotional distress or make us feel overwhelmed. Together we work towards growth by identifying the issues involved, establishing goals, and becoming increasingly aware of reoccurring patterns that prevent growth. As awareness of one’s fears, perception, desires, and strengths increase, we are able to make successful life changes. Self-awareness by becoming more honest with ourselves can initiate the authenticity that often results in healing, transformation, and fuller life.

In my practice I strive to help clients gain awareness of what is keeping them stuck and develop effective, healthier, coping strategies for gaining control in their lives.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
