Do you always feel like you keep messing up? Keep making the same mistakes over and over again? Are wondering why you just can't get it right? I'm here to tell you you're not hopeless. You can do things differently to get what you want. But you can't keep doing the same thing and hope for things to change. Here's the truth: chances are you haven't learned the skills you need to have a fulfilling relationship where you feel heard and understood. Your disappointment and hurt show up as anger and rage. You've lived a life of settling for whatever fell in your lap and realize that's not going to cut it anymore.

At this time I am only doing online video meetings. I agree with the philosophy that crisis is a combination of danger and opportunity. Human beings are very delicate emotionally and can suffer tremendously. My clinical experiences over the years have been very broad from child service agencies to residential treatment to outpatient psychiatry. Currently I work with individuals and families who struggle with with anxiety, depression, and relationship problems. I welcome longer term, deeper therapy work as well as problem-focused counseling with cognitive-behavioral interventions.

Do you feel stuck? Does life feel too hard? Are you lacking joy? Are you having difficulties going through a transition? Are you experiencing relationship struggles? At some point, each one of us will find ourself in one or more of these places.
“Owning our story can be hard, but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky, but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy- the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.” -Brené Brown

Working with late adolescents, adults, couples, I seek to help the hurting to see more clearly what is happening, and give compassion to why they might feel the way they do.
Life can seem like a barrage of stimuli hurling at us. This makes it difficult to listen quietly and to be led intuitively. How do You respond? We all react differently or sometimes even destructively, manifesting in attempts at control, or feeling insecure and compulsive. If one feels anxious, afraid, and uncertain while trying to do life, the struggle to figure things out can seem even less navigable. I seek to create a safe environment that allows people in pain, emotional paralysis, fear, self harm, sadness, etc... to experience hope and gain practical skills in order to navigate their lives with more savvy and confidence.

I work with individuals and couples to identify and overcome barriers to happiness, healthy functioning, and life satisfaction. Problems and symptoms experienced by clients may be caused by current difficult situations/experiences, or by an accumulation of life hardships, or by a combination of both. Some clients might experience a general sense of unhappiness others might have specific symptoms, but either way, they may not really know why. Often, the link between the true problem/s and symptoms is not obvious and I help clients to gain insight into what may be happening and find effective ways of coping.

I specialize and have particular interest in working with relationship concerns, life transitions, depression, anxiety reduction and social phobia, self-esteem, identity development, women's issues, body image concerns, career concerns, multicultural concerns, GLBTQ issues, grief and loss, and trauma recovery.
Starting or returning to therapy can be one of the most difficult, yet positive and rewarding decisions you make in your life. In therapy I strive to offer a safe space to gain increased self-awareness and to examine what may have you feeling stuck and overwhelmed. Through the process of therapy, you can shift your current way of doing things, change life-patterns and overcome barriers that keep getting in your way. It takes courage to begin therapy, but once you make the decision, it will likely enhance your sense of self, your relationships, and your quality of life.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
