I have also worked with foster families, hospice patients and their families, older adults, couples, and individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
I work with people using a variety of philosophies, but those encompassing humanistic and psychodynamic theories inform most of my practice. This generally means I am most interested in focusing on emotions, insight, relationships, past experiences, meta-emotion, self-worth, authenticity, fantasies, and the unconscious. I rely heavily on discussing shame, vulnerability, emotional needs, and creating meaning in life. I am fairly non-directive, and I will be most focused on helping you find your own authentic path by reflecting and exploring deeper meanings and patterns that arise in our discussions.

I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families as they navigate through various mental health presentations. I have been certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and as a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. Clients are assessed, and with them, a unique, meaningful, and strength-based treatment plan is developed. Meeting clients where they are is the number one priority, and through the use of various therapeutic strategies and a healthy and positive therapeutic relationship, clients are encouraged to identify and work through that which prevents them from living an authentic, rewarding, and fulfilling life.

I work with individuals and couples.
Does anxiety get in the way of your performance sexually, or otherwise? Have past experiences left you feeling guarded, fearful or confused? Is being vulnerable difficult for you? Unresolved grief or trauma can make us feel stuck, misunderstood, and unable to move forward. It can leave us feeling depressed, and anxious. Perhaps you desire enhanced connection with others but this has been elusive to you and you feel physically or emotionally blocked in some way. You want to reach your full potential in all areas of your life and you just need some support to unlock it.

I specialize in working with couples, young adults, and parents/caretakers.
Immediate availability! Do you crave consistent and secure connections as you navigate the uncertainty that comes with being human? Unpredictable and overwhelming circumstances and relationships can feel dangerous, shaping how we view ourselves and others. As a therapist trained in examining relationships, my hope is to help clarify how your experiences and relationships have impacted where you’ve been so we can figure out where you want to go. Though therapy can be uncomfortable, I provide a warm and safe atmosphere for self-exploration and action.

My passions include helping folks who struggle with anxiety, depression, life changes, relationship conflict, or trauma.
One of the bravest things that you can do, is to advocate for yourself. This can also be one of the most challenging things. If you find yourself feeling stuck or in need of support, therapy may be the boost that you need! In my sessions, I aim to create a space that is both comforting and collaborative to facilitate support, validation, and grace. As a client, you are the expert in your life, and with some guidance and support, you are able to achieve the goals that you set out for yourself.

Trained in Europe and the US in Psychology, Anthropology and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy I provide multi-cultural and cross-disciplinary knowledge and 30+ years of clinical experience to individuals and couples seeking in depth work and awareness of core issue.
With over 30 years experience in individual and couple psychotherapy, I learned to tailor my treatment to the SPECIFIC needs of each person or couple. I help patients identify dynamics that hold them back and keep them isolated and unfulfilled. With couples, I identify deep core issues that maintain disconnection and conflict, leading to improved understanding, empathy and renewed love for each other. Changes brought about by this treatment are not meant to be temporary but long lasting as people learn skills and make use of tools that will continue to be available to them well after treatment is over.

My job is to provide you with information, empathy, and understanding to support you on your journey of personal growth for individuals and couples.
If you find yourself struggling, feeling overwhelmed or experiencing painful emotions in your everyday life or perhaps experiencing triggers from past trauma, I work with people like you, who sometimes get stuck in a cycle of self-defeating behavior in your personal life and relationships. Together we can address your needs of improving your quality of life such as helping you manage stress and anxiety. We would start by creating a collaborative relationship. I facilitate this by doing my best to create a comfortable space where you can share not only your issues, but one that helps shape your ideas for growth and change

Someone who had a tremendous impact on my life once told me that while we are wounded in relationships, we are also healed in relationships. This reminder has informed my approach in therapy since the day my very first client sat in front of me. It is my hope that the therapeutic relationship we build together imparts just that upon you: restoration from both the wounds which you are altogether too familiar with, as well as those which you may not know are even there. It’s my privilege to provide the space where you can feel comfortable sharing. Together, we can find hope, as it is never truly lost.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
