About Telehealth: Clients report that they feel as comfortable and supported as they would by meeting in an office, and that they enjoy the convenience and flexibility telehealth provides. Working over the past 25 years in County Mental Health Systems, Child Protective Services, Crisis Intervention, Hospice services and Forensics , I've acquired extensive experience working with individuals, couples and older adults. My sessions tend to focus on reducing self doubt and questioning by fostering a sense of curiosity and exploration of the sources of discomfort, with the goal of rediscovering your strengths and self confidence.

I believe that the foundation upon which an individual's emotional, psychological, and physical health may thrive is determined by the strength of that individual's relationship with "self". My treatment style is holistic and integrated, its core components being that of empathy, authenticity, and collaboration. My areas of practice include relational issues experienced throughout the lifespan, trauma, moral injury, sexual/gender issues, and issues pertaining to chronic illness and addiction. Making the choice to seek help is incredibly brave, and finding a counselor can be overwhelming. I aim to make the process as safe and effortless as possible, providing individual, family, and couples counseling. We all have a right to belong, be respected, and feel heard and understood. If you experience anxiety, depression, shame, grief and loss, have had traumatic experiences, or relationship difficulties, counseling may help. Together we can find healing, promote connection with others, reduce distress, implement healthy boundaries, and process our hurt to create a better relationship with ourselves, our stories, and our world.

I have advanced training in the treatment of substance abuse disorders, relationship therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and mindful self-compassion.
I work with a variety of adult clients. Most people who consult me are confronting anxiety, depression, substance abuse, stress related disorders, and marital problems. In assessing the type of problems, people present, I look at lifestyle, current coping mechanisms, how we think and perceive our problem, our personal histories and what strategies specifically people have used to address their concerns. The use of mindfulness, learning to be more present in the moment allows for reduced reactivity, new ways of coping, problem solving, and relating to others in ones environment. It can lead to healing and transformation.

As a person and as a counselor my focus is on developing relationships that foster wholeness. I am not interested in simply diagnosing and treating symptoms. I help clients who are interested in going deeper into their humanity and discovering the richness that can be found in seeking wholeness. I work with youth, adults, and couples who are experiencing existential, spiritual, and/or relational problems.

I work with individuals who are struggling with relationship concerns, depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, grief/loss, eating/weight issues, identity concerns, and difficult life transitions.
My approach to therapy is based on the belief that everyone has an innate capacity for healing and growth. As we adapt to life's challenges, however, we sometimes get stuck in long-term patterns of thinking, feeling, behaving, or relating to others that ultimately limit our growth and leave us feeling sad, lonely, overwhelmed, anxious, angry, or fearful. I work collaboratively with clients to help them identify, understand, and change these patterns that keep them feeling stuck so that they can to move towards a life that is more passionate, creative, and fulfilling.

I will equip you with the skills and strategies to communicate in a meaningful and loving manner to assist you in fostering an authentic relationship with yourself and others.
On this journey we call life we are all seeking connection and clarity amid chaos. We all want to be seen, heard, and validated. At times it is difficult to communicate the messages we desire to send in a manner our loved ones can accept. While attempting to communicate these messages conflict may arise. This can be frustrating resulting in hopelessness, confusion, and anxiety.

We are all looking for love. Authentic self love takes time, attention and oftentimes help.  Looking for it outside of yourself is exhausting, demoralizing and depressing. Believing that there must be something wrong with you is isolating and terrible for the self esteem required for a healthy relationship. You are tired of feeling like a beggar, when you know you have so much to give. You know you are amazing and are at loss as to how to get what you need and want in a partner. You’d like a relationship with mutual love, respect and deep connection. You would also like to feel great about yourself in the context of a relationship

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
