I'm also trained in the Gottman method, which enables me to support women and couples through their transition into parenthood and beyond.
Everyone said having a baby would be the most magical time in your life, but you're finding that juggling the demands of parenthood and partnership leave you feeling more unappreciated, unseen in your marriage, and overwhelmed than you've ever been before. Feelings of loneliness and anxiety visit more than you could have imagined, and worry sets in that maybe you'll never cut it as a mom. Know it doesn't have to be this way. You can trust your abilities as a parent, enjoy the here-and-now with your partner and your baby, and approach both the chaos and beauty of parenthood with compassion, confidence, and humor.

Safety has been elusive in your life and trust is something that is a figment of the imagination. You're seeking "normal" and are not sure what "normal" actually is. Living in survival mode has become your way of life. Walking into my office or meeting via telelhealth your safety, emotional, mental, physical, is my first priority. We can't heal if we don't first feel a sense of safety. You want to be able to walk around in this world without fear, without being in fight, flight, freeze, feint, or fawn mode. You want healthy relationships and to thrive.

Inevitably, we all encounter periods in our lives in which what we've learned to that point isn't sufficient for the challenges we now face. I believe therapy can be a safe, supportive environment in which to better understand ourselves and the world and to revisit what we want in life and how to get there. Whether you are dealing with significant anxiety or depression, or simply need a new environment to learn your way through new challenges with a helping eye and ear, I bring a humorous, creative, curious and open-minded approach to helping you progress through life's challenges.

Did you ever watch the movie, "Forrest Gump"? This movie has one of my favorite quotes, "My mama always said, Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." This makes perfect sense to me. I too am often sideswiped at the surprises in life. Ever since age 12, I'd ask every wise person I knew about each new life surprise. Then I'd read every book I could find on the topic. I now share this knowledge with you in bibliotherapy-the use of books in therapy (& cinema-therapy). I also have vast life experience. Another way to look at how therapy helps is this, imagine that you've been travelling down the road

One of the statements I hear most often from people starting therapy is "I just feel stuck". Moving forward in life whether it is due to grief and loss, depression and anxiety, excessive worry or panic, trauma related symptoms, insomnia or needing to re-learn life skills, oftentimes requires taking action to get "unstuck". I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to treat depression, anxiety and panic by teaching skills to reframe negative thinking and activation skills to get moving again with manageable

I know that wanting to maintain and improve your mental health can feel scary to do alone, we all want to be heard and feel seen by others. Often times talking and questioning can bring the clarity you're looking for, therapy is a great place to explore your thoughts. Therapy is a place to connect your behaviors with thoughts, and a therapist can help make those connections. I am accepting new clients. I enjoy working on boundaries and self-worth. Therapy should ultimately make you feel better!

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
