I work with children ages 5+, adolescents and adults/couples.
Welcome and thank you for reading further. Since even prior to the Pandemic, it seems life has become much more stressful for children, adolescents and adults but mental health awareness has improved. If you or your child are struggling with anxiety/social anxiety, AD(H)D, OCD, depression, significant loss/bereavement, have experienced trauma, feeling pressure to be perfect, feeling disconnected in your relationships, or in general feeling you've lost perspective of where you want to or are supposed to be at this point in your life, I would like to be of assistance. I have been successfully treating all of these conditions and more.

Having worked in a variety of milieus in both New York and Massachusetts has afforded me the opportunity to work with a wide range of individuals, couples and families.
I have been in practice for 30 years and recognize the importance of having a therapist who is non-judgmental, supportive, caring and invested in change. My eclectic approach provides a safe environment by empowering people to ultimately accept themselves by reaching their innate potential. I carry no magic wand but rather a keen, sensitive and thoughtful ear.

I can support you with a variety of life questions and relationship concerns to become more authentic with your true self and live a more congruent life that you desire.
Therapy is a journey of self-awareness. We have so many layers of who we are. We often have patterns of behavior that often does not serve us well. At times, we have difficulty communicating and understanding others and ourselves. We also might have expectations about ourselves and other that are not realistic. I have been working with children, adolescents, adults, elders, couples and families for 20 years. My role, as a mental health therapist, is to be at your side with your questions and exploration, as well as supporting you to create a life that can be more meaningful and content.

Specializing in individual & couples counseling (e.g. those struggling with infidelity, addiction, high levels of conflict, dissatisfaction, inability to communicate or "stage of life" changes). My clients are typically professionals, first responders (fire, police, EMT, hospital staff), couples, trauma survivors, those in addiction recovery & those struggling with grief and loss. For over three decades, I have worked effectively with individuals & families of all types and persuasions. I employ both evidence-based & observation-based practices but believe a therapist's life-long experience is always the best predictor of success.

My approach with clients recognizes that most people are looking for tangible help, don't have a lot of time between work and family, and want to feel like they are moving toward a better understanding of solutions to address their difficulties. My work with clients acknowledges these issues. I take a very active role in counseling to explore the options with my clients, provide new knowlege of issues where relevant, and help an individual to reach their potential. Issues related to marital/partner, parenting/child, family, work, school, stress, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse are all areas I work with.

Throughout my career as a clinical social worker, I have worked with teenagers and families. I love young people: their enthusiasm and their passion for life, even their confusion and their uncertainties. As for the parents of those teenagers, I can only empathize with you. Even experienced clinicians struggle parenting teens when they're your own. And the toll parenting a teenager can take on a marriage: it is undoubtedly why most of the couples I have worked with, sought marriage therapy during the time their children were teenagers or young adults. I understand their pain and want to help relieve it.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
