Adults and couples experience a nonjudgmental space encouraging emotional growth, adaptive coping, and relationship building.
Negative thought patterns, anxious thoughts, depressive thoughts, and self-defeating behavior can get in the way, and slow progress. This might mean less life satisfaction, poor work-life balance, decreased quality of life, and unfulfilling relationships. Performance at work, in college, in sports, and in other performance-based tasks may suffer. Creative and performing artists might find creativity declining. Overall, motivation and the will to live your best life might decrease. Have you thought about getting help, or about improving your life? Counseling can be a vehicle for emotional growth and personal development!

Choosing to go to therapy is both a courageous and meaningful step in someone's life. In my experience, some clients enter treatment having a sense of what is troubling them and have made great efforts to resolve these difficulties, and yet these painful feelings persist. And other times, clients are only aware of the hurt they are feeling and are looking for ways to identify it's source and alleviate their discomfort. I have found that the therapeutic relationship can be helpful in both circumstances and seek to provide an approach that is best characterized by warmth, flexibility, openness, active engagement, and sensitivity.

I also integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS) and mindfulness into my practice, so that you can deal calmly and compassionately with the more troublesome aspects of your personality, helping you to bring a more appreciative, more caring, more lighthearted attitude to yourself, your partner, and your family.
Life has its ups and downs, but do you seem to have more downs these days? Are you fearful or sad, losing sleep, worrying about partner or your child? Are you angry and irritable, then ashamed? Insecure and unhappy on your job? You don’t need to stay in this lonely, confusing place. Therapy is a wonderful opportunity to pause, breathe deeply, and take time to find your voice. As a therapist, I can be there with a listening ear, a calm presence. More than that, I provide a mix of insight, practical advice, candid feedback, warmth, and a sense of humor. Therapy is an inner journey, and I’ll be by your side.

I have a doctorate in clinical psychology and have been working with preteens, adolescents, adults, families and couples on the North Shore for over twenty years.
Stress, sadness, anxiety, relationship problems, loss, and challenges at school and work are problems we all face as human beings at one time or another. Yet, life doesn't come with an instruction manual, and finding happiness and well-being often seems difficult if not impossible. However, I believe that by understanding some simple principles about the mind and its functioning allows us to tap into our innate wisdom and common sense, make healthier choices, overcome challenges and experience more peace and contentment. I believe change happens in the present through insight, education and understanding, not by delving into the past.

I have training and experience with many issues ranging from couples counseling to depression, anxiety and anger to eating disorders, adhd, childhood sexual abuse and sexual addiction.
Now offering Teletherapy online video session for couples and marriage counseling. In a relaxed, professional but non-threatening environment, we can explore areas of your life in which you'd like to grow. As a Christian Counselor, the Bible is always the backdrop of the conversation. Nothing about human behavior shocks me. However, God is all about second chances and reconciliation and I love to be a part of the healing process. In addition to the traditional weekly counseling hour long session, I offer phone, and video sessions. I am now offering "marriage intensives" which is extensive hours of therapy over a weekend.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
