Using Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, I help couples to understand the cycles in which they find themselves stuck and then help them to recognize the attachment needs that are underneath their responses.
Our close relationships are important to our mental and emotional well-being and when they are strained, it affects many areas of our lives. In fact, secure relationships are one of the main factors that contribute to the resilience we need to cope with adverse experiences. I specialize in helping couples and families improve their relationships. Healthy relationships are the key to coping with depression, anxiety, trauma, and many other issues. Because of this, my goal is to help everyone have strong, healthy relationships.

I have experience in Trauma-informed care, CBT, DBT, Couples Therapy, and Crisis.
Sometimes in life we struggle with understanding why or how we ended up where we have. I believe that most of us attempt to manage the best we can given our current circumstances, struggles and challenges. Even then life can still seem insurmountable. I want you to know that change is possible, but doing it alone may feel like an added burden. I will work with you collaboratively to navigate the challenges at hand. My goal is to provide an unbiased, welcoming, and therapeutic environment.

As a therapist with over 40 years of experience, I believe the patient and therapist relationship is the foundation needed to provide a safe environment to help others develop healthier adaptive responses to life challenges.
Our significant relationships and life history have shaped our individual beliefs and behaviors. Often times those beliefs and behaviors prove to be limiting and may keep us stuck. At times, we find ourselves anxious or depressed, stressed in our relationships and out of balance. By increasing awareness and healthy living skills, counseling offers an opportunity to change your circumstances and/or your response to them.

Do you feel overwhelmed with some of your life circumstances? Have you experienced trauma: a divorce, job-loss, traumatic birth, difficult diagnosis, or domestic violence? Are you depressed, struggling with low self-esteem, lacking motivation, or needing help transitioning through life? I believe that every individual has what it takes to succeed and live a fulfilling life. Sometimes, we have to go through the darkest storms to see the brightest rainbows. Without the right tools and a safe non-judgmental space, it may feel impossible to weather the storm on your own.

I identify as deeply spiritual, queer, an artist, a mindfulness teacher, and a therapist deeply committed to the art of healing through empathy and conversation. I believe too many people go through life confusing their true self with the person folks would like them to be. I feel honored to walk alongside his clients as they parse their identities, meeting the authentic individual as they uncover new parts of their self. I take pride in bringing compassion and care to sessions with my clients. I also work with couples through an EFT lens.

Seeking out help, reassurance, advice, or gaining support is not easy for most people, so you have overcome the first hurdle. Regardless of it being relationship issues, inability to regulate emotions, co-dependency, personality disorder, trying to cope with past or present trauma, addiction, or troublesome thoughts; you don't have to carry the burden of it all by yourself. Some people are in fear of being judged for the secrets they carry, while others feel their opinions do not matter, so they keep their struggles to themselves. If you are wanting to feel better, but you don't know how, it's ok, we can do it together.

Greetings! It’s great to have you here! Look, reaching out for help and starting therapy is a daunting process. If you’re here it means you are searching for someone to help you through a difficult time. No one calls my office or emails me because everything is “perfect.” Typically, my clients are facing major burnout, compassion fatigue, work/career issues, relationship crisis, and a spattering of problems like anxiety, depression, weight gain, and attention and concentration concerns. The good news is that I have worked with them all – and each one, you included, brings something unique and impressive to the work that I do: You.

Are the challenges of parenting seeming to outweigh the joy of parenting lately? Are you struggling to keep up with all of the modern-day expectations of parenting? You’re not alone! Parenting is inherently challenging & sometimes we need a space where we can be honest about what frustrates us in parenting & work through the things about our children (or our spouse!) that keep us up at night.

I understand that the decision to participate in therapy can be uncomfortable and daunting for many people, so creating a genuine client-therapist relationship and a safe space is a priority of mine. I strive to make the therapeutic process as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. I view therapy as a collaborative process that is founded on the individual’s strengths and goals and respect that each client is unique in their experiences and situations. I am passionate about working with couples, and client's struggling with anxiety, personal identity, and helping to challenge and change negative thoughts and behaviors.

I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and couples.
It is essential to look at past relationships and experiences to work through what is bringing you into therapy now, including relationship issues, difficulty pinpointing or expressing emotions, or experiencing distressing symptoms. Our experiences from the past shape how we view the world, engage with others, and often speak to how we feel about ourselves.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
