Alexandra works with adolescents, adult, couples and families who are facing a wide range of emotional, psychological, physical, and spiritual issues. These are high-functioning, creative individuals who feel stuck, unfulfilled, and generally out of sync with the lives that they lead for a variety of internal and external reasons.

I help individuals, couples, and families address relationship crises such as escalating couple conflict; family breakdown in communication; pre and post divorce issues; unique family dynamics when the couple have children from prior relationships; and the role that trauma often plays in getting stuck and staying stuck in addictive behaviors.
Are you going through important life changes? Is conflict destroying your relationship with your spouse/intimate partner? Do you feel a loss of connection with yourself, your family, with others, or with God? Challenges are often disguised opportunities to learn new skills. Hope comes alive when we change the focus and the interpretations we give to our experiences free from our own destructive judgments and those of others. Together, let's use what works in therapy, spiritual principles, and my 23+ years of clinical experience to create real changes in your relationships and your quality of living.

At this time I am only doing online video meetings. I agree with the philosophy that crisis is a combination of danger and opportunity. Human beings are very delicate emotionally and can suffer tremendously. My clinical experiences over the years have been very broad from child service agencies to residential treatment to outpatient psychiatry. Currently I work with individuals and families who struggle with with anxiety, depression, and relationship problems. I welcome longer term, deeper therapy work as well as problem-focused counseling with cognitive-behavioral interventions.

I believe that at some point in our lives we will need someone in our corner who will be that objective voice assisting us as we navigate through challenging times. Often times it is difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel however I believe that each person has within the necessary tools to overcome whatever challenges that they may be facing. Counseling allows for the tapping into those strengths as well as empowering an individual to be the best that they can be.

Can you imagine coming home to your partner and having them feel like your safe haven from the stressors of the world? Can you imagine feeling seen, valued and loved by your partner? I am looking forward to helping you.
The quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives. You might feel like you were once a happy couple, but now don’t want to be alone with each other. You can’t solve a disagreement respectfully and feel stuck in a pattern.

While I have worked with many people over the years on individual & relationship issues, no two have been the same.
Feeling trapped in a repetitive cycle? Maybe it's time to make a change. Relationships can grow stale to the point of living as roommates. Personal obstacles might be holding you back from reaching your full potential. Families can fall apart over unresolved conflict. How would each day differ if you overcame your own struggles, mended broken family relationships, or brought your marriage back from the brink to full restoration? Isn’t it worth trying for?

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
