I am dedicated to your success and work exclusively with individuals and couples on the reparative journey to healing, serenity, and renewed love.
Has your world been turned upside down after learning of your partner's secret romantic or sexual experiences? Do you feel furious, devastated, numb and confused all at the same time? One moment you feel love and the next extreme anger, one moment you're screaming and the next you're crying, one moment you're determined to leave and the next wondering if you can forgive? Or perhaps you've been dealing with this for a while and you feel stuck; you still can't trust or forgive, can't stop thinking about what happened, and worry about it happening again? I understand how you feel and am so deeply sorry that you're going through this.

In sex therapy, I create a safe, sex-positive space to address concerns relating to sexual health and intimacy for couples and individuals (queer, ENM, & kink friendly).
These are really tough times, aren't they? Existing issues feel bigger and it can be that much harder to cope. Therapy can heIp. I approach therapy in a warm and collaborative manner to help couples, individuals, and families identify new and adaptive ways to deal with life's challenges. In couples therapy, I use Emotion-Focused and Gottman approaches to help partners learn to manage and repair conflict, rebuild trust and intimacy, and build emotional connections. In family treatment, I'll work with your family to develop adaptive and healthy communication patterns, as well as address parenting concerns and behavioral issues.

Conversations will shift from you versus your partner to you and your partner versus the issue(s) at hand.
My work specializes in individual and couples therapy for those experiencing conflict in their relationship. I anticipate sessions with clients speaking from a position of "rightness" early in therapy with a smooth transition to deepened listening while recognizing personal missteps and growth considerations. As a client, you will be expected to be the main character in your narrative and over time place less change demands on the supportive roles in your life. You will speak with purpose and listen with the intention of learning to step into the next chapter of your relationship with yourself and your partner.

I invite you to picture your relationship months from now and know that it's possible to feel renewed hope.
When you're tired of arguing, feeling unappreciated, misunderstood or drifting too far apart, it's time to get some help for your relationship. Contrary to myths about therapy, it's a relationship strength to reach out for support when you’re stuck in negative patterns with those you love. Research shows that many couples wait years beyond when they should get help, & this makes the task much more difficult. As someone who has been a client & a therapist, I know it can be so daunting to start therapy, & I am here to help you navigate the process that so many couples wish they would have started sooner. Your relationship is worth it!

I am passionate about helping clients who are stuck and eager to feel confident about who they are and where they are headed. My neurodiverse clients often feel overstimulated and anxious; some find themselves masking to hide their shame and negative view of self. Many of the people who walk through my door experience work/school dissatisfaction, relationship struggles, chronic procrastination, religious trauma, anxiety, and depression. They are overwhelmed by all the suggestions on social media and want someone to help them find sustainable solutions that work with their unique brain, personality, relationships, and goals.

Many of us convince ourselves we should have already figured out how to solve relationship or life struggles.
I believe two things to be true: that all people have an inner Self-Critic that negates their gifts and sows doubt in their abilities, and also that their struggles can be turned into their "Super Powers" when we can understand how their life experiences got them here. I am here to help you turn from Self-Critical and stuck to harnessing your innate goodness to create the personal progress and satisfying relationships you desire! Whether you want to work on relationship goals, personal goals or help processing trauma, I would be honored to walk with you in non-judgement, ready to listen and help you change your life.

As an Emotionally Focused Couple Therapist, my approach includes developing a caring, trusting and honest partnership with you.
Everyone knows relationships take work. But what does that really mean? We'll work on things like: How do both of you feel in your relationship? Do you deeply understand and effectively communicate each other's thoughts, feelings, and needs? I have been married over 30 years and have three grown children. I understand the challenges couples must navigate and how they can get stuck in negative cycles. My approach is to help you recognize and change the patterns that keep you stuck and support you to reach out to each other in ways that bring you closer. I also specialize in helping couples and families heal from addictions.

I help couples like you learn what's not working, & how you are getting stuck.
Relationships can be hard work, but so worth the effort. I'm here to help you reconnect and repair with the love of your life. As a couples therapy specialist, I see couples go from discouraged to hopeful all the time. Does this sound like you? "I feel so disconnected, when the goal was to be close. We end up arguing when we meant to have fun and feel loved. We aren't having sex much anymore, when that used to be one of the favorite parts of our relationship. I try to make them happy, only to feel like I'm failing." Even though it might feel scary or daunting, don’t wait to get help while the hurts pile up and the distance grows.

ADULTS & COUPLES: I primarily work from an attachment-informed, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) model.
When you are struggling to move past conflicts or getting stuck in all-too-familiar patterns, there should be something so direct, personal, and real about what you discover and practice in therapy that it should dramatically change how you think, feel, and act with others. Therapy should captivate and transform you. That's my specialty. Yet, even though therapy is serious work, there should be room for play: for trying things on, for practice, for being human. As a couple and family therapist I care about the quality of your relationships. My approach? Connecting. Pragmatic. Thorough. Creative.

Sometimes life gets extra "lifey" & your relationship needs & deserves some TLC.
Anyone can struggle in their most important relationships, in spite of hard work & the best intentions. Trying to fix your own relationship difficulties can feel like trying to do brain surgery on yourself. If you try hard & still get stuck in repeating patterns of conflict, don't know how to talk about your feelings without starting a fight, feel misunderstood, or maybe feel like you're not high on your partner's priority list, you are not alone. I specialize in Emotionally Focused Therapy, an evidenced-based map to help you get the love, closeness & sense of security in your most important relationships that you deserve to have.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
