My specialty areas are individual and couples counseling.
As an accomplished therapist with 20 years in practice, I offer a safe, nurturing environment for healing. Stress, feelings of inadequacy, anxiety or depression are frequent sources of discouragement and suffering. Every individual is unique, with their own strengths and difficulties. In counseling, some clients have concrete goals. Others may feel confused and overwhelmed, unsure of how to find greater contentment in their lives. Individuals and couples come to me to identify and overcome obstacles to a better life. My empathy and non-judgmental listening will help you navigate a path to attainable goals.

I specialize in working with couples and am in person! As long as you are willing to put in the work, I'm willing to meet you where you are at and help you communicate with your partner. I do not condone nastiness or threatening behavior, but I will work to uncover the heart of what you are feeling and what you are trying to express.

Addiction, Adoption/Foster Care, Children, Families, Individual, and couples therapy.
My passion is helping others through life's ups and down standing along side them in the journey. I have found through therapeutic sessions a common thread, and that is finding and holding on to hope, and the struggle in learning to truly love yourself. This can come from a number of reasons including past trauma, low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, early childhood beliefs, and the list goes on. When an individual is comfortable "being in their own skin" they can move forward into healthy relationships and joy in life beginning to feel true love and hope bringing lifetime contentment.

Using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), I look forward to helping create a safe and accepting place, where couples can explore their unspoken–and often unmet—emotional needs.
Although I have worked with diverse populations, I gravitate toward the family systems approach and feel that a family’s distress is not attributable to just one person, but rather a combination of interactions of individual members within that “system.” I have been using Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) with couples and individuals. Recently, I have decided to open my own practice. My focus will continue to be EFT as well as Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) to help address the many clients who come to the therapy session with backgrounds in trauma.

Some of the reasons people come in for counseling include: * Anxiety * Depression * Interpersonal/relationship issues * Low self-esteem * Identity concerns * Crisis needs * Loss of a loved one * Spiritual crisis Counseling is about restoring balance to life.
Most of the time life goes along well and we feel satisfied with how things are going and what we are accomplishing. Then there are times when we feel out of sync, like we’re stepping on our own opportunities. We are sure there is a better way but we don’t know what it is. These are the times when personal counseling can be very helpful to get back on track and experience the sense of satisfaction, accomplishment and happiness we know we are entitled to.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
