Couples are a specialty area as well as individuals.
I'm an experienced therapist including twenty years with University of Arkansas. I specialize in working with adults and college students. I see individuals, couples, and families dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, crises of all kinds, self-esteem problems, and sexual dysfunction. I am solution focused and will do my best to help you feel comfortable. My philosophy is that most everyone can use counseling at some point in their lives and that it is often the stronger person who seeks help. I offer a free initial consultation. Most insurance accepted.

I love working with couples and individuals.
I am passionate about being a guide and counsel for others as they deepen and clarify their life, and I want to aid in their search for meaning, connection and contentedness. Our lives inevitably have struggles and periods of confusion, and I deeply value the strife and courage towards wholeness and health. I encourage this journey for everyone and will be honored to be a part of yours. My past experience is as a Counselor in Residence and Senior Mental Health Clinician at the Counseling and Psychological Services at the University of Arkansas. See website to schedule.

This can take many forms, including working with an individual to examine your own interactions with your family, working with a couple to strengthen their relationship, or working with the whole family to change pattens of interaction in the home.
As necessary as change often is, it can also be one of the hardest things to do. It seems safe to stay with what we know even if it's not what's for our best. The good news is is that change is indeed possible! Having an outside perspective to process your story and to begin to interpret and understand things differently can be a vital as you pursue growth and change. The lens of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) considers your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and how these interact as well as how they influence our interactions with others; it acknowledge the past while focusing primarily on growth in the present and future.

I believe the counseling relationship is a powerful tool for learning to to be kinder and more generous with ourselves. I understand that many of us come from environments, past or present, that tell us we do not "deserve" safety, love, acceptance, or belonging, and sometimes this keeps us at a remove from our communities and loved ones. In my practice, I collaborate with clients to create a safe, shame-free place for moving through and beyond these messages—a place where it is possible to experiment with vulnerability while searching for the most authentic and empowered version of the client's life.

I believe every person’s story deserves to be heard and shared in a safe space. I enjoy working with adolescents, adults, couples, and families regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or religious beliefs. My passion lies in helping people work through trauma, anxiety and depression, grief and loss, addiction, and working through family issues. Life can be hard, messy, and painful and you shouldn’t have to walk through it alone. I enjoy helping my clients find the words to tell their stories, while also untangling and processing all of the feelings and memories that come from those stories.

Here’s what I’m offering: a relationship that does not require you to be less than what you are, a space that is safe and accepting of every part of you (yes, even that part), time to ask the big questions that will lead you back to yourself, and new strategies that can carry you forward into a more energetic and fulfilling life.
If you feel like something isn’t right and you are considering therapy - welcome! The toughest part is realizing that something really can change, and that you might need a little help to get where you want to be. The truth is, we all need a little help to get where we want to be.

I have worked to help individuals, couples and families find healing and understanding in desperate situations and times.
Accepting new clients for immediate openings! Looking for a therapist can be challenging! I want to help you achieve the solutions and life changes you are looking for without judgement while enjoying the process as much as possible and experiencing yourself in new way. I don't believe therapy has to be be painful. Calling a therapist can be intimidating, but I hope you will take a moment and maybe a deep breath to call and see how I can help. A little about me, I have experience working in community mental health, school based programs, psychiatric hospitals, and intensive outpatient programs for over 25 years.

While I’m familiar with a number of counseling modalities, I believe that results come down to three things: counseling relationship, awareness of challenges, and honest engagement in strategies to overcome challenges.
My clients are individuals, couples, and teens (12+) with issues like anxiety, depression, trauma, disappointment, family or relationship difficulties, belonging concerns, life transitions, grief, and more. I have experience with post-partum issues, adoptee concerns, and motherhood + identity issues. I have worked with a variety of backgrounds, and I’m looking forward to hearing your unique story! I believe people are capable of facing life's most difficult challenges with greater resilience and self-compassion.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
