I have 33 years of working with clients with Severe mental illness and substance abuse disorders specifically opiates, however I have treated all kinds of addictions and I'm aware of the complications involved in each unique case. Along with having a proven track record of helping clients obtain sobriety, I have also helped out with Case management, housing and benefits. In my time in this career, I have found out that this population is under served and I have spent my career with trying to fill that gap.
Though I've completed and education and have a degree the majority of my knowledge comes from actually working with clients. I am not an academic and what you get from me is from the heart not from the textbook. My job history reveals that I didn't just sit around and take cushy jobs, that I took the long way around. I'm not afraid and up for any challenge.
I am an individual who listens actively and understands what the person is saying. I can calm their nerves and make the conversation more productive by repeating what the person is saying, asking questions to learn more and never interrupting while they are talking. I also don't make the person feel wrong or bad about how they feel and always following up.
