People sometimes wonder if their challenges are serious enough to warrant therapy. If you are feeling upset often, not recovering quickly from hurt feelings, feeling stuck, and you think things could get better, we should talk. Sometimes people minimize or downplay the severity of their own suffering because they feel they should not be suffering. The truth is how you feel matters and you can be happier in life. Some people only engage in therapy for a couple months, but others have more complicated goals and we meet for longer periods like for 4-6 months.
Once we create a plan together, I will use a variety of approaches to guide our work toward reaching your goals. Common goals include 1) Increasing coping skills or feeling less overwhelmed. 2) More insight about behavior and feelings. 3) Greater self-acceptance. 4) Processing past trauma such as loss of parent or abuse.
I have witnessed the growth and success of many wonderful people who came to therapy feeling nearly hopeless, stressed, and lost. I know that you can reach your goals and I'd like to help you get there. Most often I work with graduate level college students, professionals, and parents. Sometimes I work with teens.
