Life is a journey. There are times when it's easy and good, and times when it's harder than you want it to be. If you're at one of the lower moments in your life, it can sometimes help if you reach out to someone who is understanding, a good listener and who has many years experience helping people problem-solve their way back to a place where life feels more manageable. If you are feeling more sad than happy, more anxious than calm, then maybe you should call me. We'll chat a little and see if we think we'd make a good therapeutic team.

Starting therapy for the first time or re-initiating therapy after a break can be intimidating. Whether you are seeking support during a difficult period of your life, healing after a traumatic event or loss, processing unresolved trauma, or deeper self-knowledge: therapy involves developing a trusting, collaborative relationship to collaboratively identify your strengths and foster a greater sense of self-awareness and self healing.

Therapy is about you, it can help you learn to take control of your life and respond to challenging situations in new and satisfying ways. When you are feeling sad or anxious, having difficulty with relationships and important life choices, psychotherapy may be helpful by exploring strategies for managing anxiety or depression, reducing relationship tensions or couples conflicts, and coping skills for daily stress. The therapeutic relationship creates a unique safe space, I view it as a collaboration an environment where we can work together in an environment of mutual trust.

Seeking help for the personal struggles you are facing takes courage and persistence. I learned this firsthand as a young college student away from home and facing some of my own painful life circumstances. The help I received inspired me to become a therapist and I have felt privileged to do this work ever since. I have over 20 years of experience helping adults and adolescents in individual, family and couples therapy. My approach combines the skilled listening of a well trained ear with caring, warmth and pointed questions, allowing your personal story to unfold.

I blend 25 years of years of experience and training with psychodynamic, somatic (mind/body integration), gestalt and the expressive arts, to work with individuals, couples and families and specialize in relationships, anxiety disorders, addiction, life/career transitions, PTSD and developmental trauma. My training in Somatic Experiencing enables me to address trauma at its bodily source -an inside out approach that cognitive approaches can’t access. My belief in our human drive for wholeness extends to my extensive work with individuals and families impacted by addiction, a fundamental disconnect of mind, body and spirit.

You were sitting quietly, minding your own business, when the panic hit. Suddenly you’re right back where you were, experiencing that frightening event as if for the first time. You can’t breathe, every muscle in your body tightens, and your stomach does somersaults. It’s so disturbing to feel this way that you’ve begun to avoid unpredictable situations. As a result, you find your life getting smaller and more limited by the day. And despite your best attempts to navigate around these feelings, they still flood back without warning or provocation. You wonder if you’ll ever return to being who you were before this happened to you.

Anxiety is natural, and affects us at any age. It has been characterized as "My over-estimation of the danger in a situation, and my under-estimation of my ability to handle it." Avoidance is the easiest response, and understandable. It is also the response that gets us in trouble, and keeps us away from many of life's best experiences. Paralyzing panic before a big presentation. Don't start a conversation with that "person of interest" in your Chemistry class. Don't do that important homework for tomorrow, because Youtube is calling for escape. We can end up not living to our values, or our hopes. Freedom is calling.

Motherhood is the hardest job on the planet. From the moment that you are pregnant, you may find yourself faced with hormonal changes and unexpected emotions. During the postpartum period, you may find that you have questions about your new identity, a sense of grief over the life you had before, and even with all the excitement there may still be some sadness and the looming question of "Is it supposed to feel like this?" Becoming a mom can bring lots of unexpected stuff to the surface. Whether you are dealing with postpartum depression, anxiety, or just a sense that something is off, I am here to help.
