Male Therapists in Colorado
I specialize in relationship issues, both individual and couple. Whether you are experiencing change through a major life transition, stressor, or traumatic event, your decision to seek therapy is admirable. Often times we fall into patterns individually and relationally that feels drowning and scary. It takes courage to seek therapy. Together, we will form a bond and build a relationship where you feel safe, confident, and proud. Then, we will conceptualize the problem, connect the dots, and get to action based work. If you are ready, I will motivate. I immerse myself in the process, ensuring quality care throughout.

I specialize working with young adult and adult men. Alongside therapy, I am an adjunct faculty at Naropa's graduate school of clinical mental health, and an organizational consultant. Clients I work with typically possess high degrees of cognitive & emotional intelligence. Neurodivergence like ADHD and Autism, as well as Depression & Anxiety are common diagnoses for these clients. Presenting problems often include; exiting or being in difficult intimate relationships, maintaining recovery and working with relapse from substance use disorder, existential questions of identity, meaning, purpose and life transitions.

I work with teens struggling to find motivation or transition into adulthood, men and young men with relationship difficulties, and parents of teens or young men who want more for their sons.
Are you exhausted from trying everything you know to do to help your teen and it just isn’t working? You’ve likely heard your son ask, “What’s the point?” more times than you can count and he has increasingly struggled to complete his day to day tasks. You’ve seen all the potential he has if only he would apply himself, but recently his grades have been slipping, his behavior has become more reckless or apathetic, and he has lost the interest he once had in life. Are you ready for him to grow up and do his chores without being nagged repeatedly? It's time to hire a specialized teen therapist. This is what I do.

I know finding the right fit for a therapist can be a bit like shopping for a sofa: try a bunch before finding the one that makes you want to rest and stay a while. I’ll offer a few details that might make this process feel a little more directive. I am a licensed professional counselor and a marriage and family therapist candidate. My work is relational at its core, whether I am working with individuals, or larger units. Those who seem to get the most out of working with me are in touch with their internal emotional landscapes and interested in being active participants in their healing.

My ideal client is motivated to get better, but they don’t quite know how to get there. Perhaps their friends and family have given lots of advice, but no one has yet to take the time to REALLY get to know their situation before problem-solving a solution. It’s complicated. The ideal client is ready for a change, to take more control of their life, and they are excited to learn more about themselves. I want to walk with you at a pace that works for you and in a way that facilitates your growth and self-awareness.

So you're looking for a change - let's get started! You might be stuck, perhaps held back by the past, not sure how to live in the present, or uncertain about moving into the future. If that's you, it's a good time for some counseling. I am a man of faith, a motorcycle rider, a runner, a reader, and one or two other things outside of counseling, just in case we still haven't connected. In counseling and support groups, I’ve spent most of my time helping people face addictions, trauma, and all the relationships in between. I often rely on the AASAT addiction training, EMDR for trauma, and EFT to help people move towards their change.

My practice focuses on men's mental health and women's empowerment.
Is pornography, cybersex, or sexual addiction impacting your life? Are you feeling alone, sexually rejected, or struggling with low desire in your relationship? Do you want more sexual and emotion intimacy? Are you concerned about your sexual identity or sexual functioning?
It is common for people to encounter sexual problems, at any age. What is uncommon is for people to do something about those problems before they irreparably damage their self-esteem and relationships. Left unmanaged, anger, shame, and fear increase. The sooner you come in for help the better chance you have of growing a happy, healthy sexual life.

I strive to serve the community around me and advocate for those who are in need. I focus on psychotherapeutic models to aid individuals in understanding the role their brain plays in treatment. Educating individuals about brain structure, function, development, and explaining how neurobiology can be applied to individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, and other disorders. Interpersonal neurobiology of human development aids us to understand that structure & function of the mind & brain are shaped by our experiences especially involving emotional relationships.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
