As your guide, I would bring research-based therapeutic treatments to the journey including EMDR (one of the leading trauma therapies), ERP (gold standard for OCD), CBT/ACT (talk therapies for anxiety, depression, etc.
Negative beliefs about ourselves can keep us trapped in our bodies and minds, and when our inner critic is at the helm, we can go down spirals that seem to cement our beliefs of not being good enough, lovable enough, successful enough, etc. You may logically know these harsh thoughts are untrue, but if there is a disconnect between mind (I know this isn’t true) and body (but it feels like it is), you are not alone- and there are steps you can take to find harmony between mind, body, and soul. As your trauma-informed therapist, I would be honored to be your guide for this integration process.

When treating OCD or obsessive symptoms I utilize an approach called ERP or Exposure and Response Prevention to help clients overcome their fears and free themselves from intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors.
I have been practicing therapy since 2016, and have developed a special focus on helping individuals suffering from anxiety disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), increasing self-esteem and confidence. In general, I utilize a Cognitive Behavioral Approach (CBT) in addition to my existential and psychodynamic foundation. This means we may spend time making meaning of past experiences but will mostly work on issues that are coming up in the present.

I can help those seeking child and play therapy. I love working with families grappling with a child who exhibits the following: intense angry outbursts, impulsivity, high sensitivity, strong-willed or anxious. These families are actively seeking strategies to manage and understand their child's challenging behaviors while fostering a deeper emotional connection. They value a therapeutic approach that not only addresses behavioral issues but also enhances family dynamics and communication. By engaging in play therapy, they hope to gain insights into their child’s emotional world and develop effective tools for support and guidance.

I believe that every individual should receive therapy that is centered on one’s own wellbeing and desire for self-importance. My goal is to help individuals accept and trust themselves and to feel valued being themselves. I have worked alongside LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, intersecting identities, and those within the criminal justice system. I have a background in supporting individuals who experience depression, anxiety, trauma, personality disorders, and schizophrenia. I believe identity is a key element in understanding the individual and their relationship within wider systems. Please email if interested. I work Tuesdays thru Saturdays.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
