For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to help others. Active listening, being empathetic, and showing compassion for others during tough times has always come naturally to me. I strive to bring these natural strengths, as well as the tools I have learned throughout my time as a student, to give the best possible care to each of my clients/families/couples. I believe that a client should be able to leave each therapy session with a greater understanding and self-awareness of how they can navigate through their lives.

Are you or your family stuck in a cycle of unsuccessfu attempts to solve a problem? Do you and your family find yourselves repeatedly stuck in problem talk instead of solution talk? Whether that problem is internal, such as anxiety or depression, external, such as defiant behavior or associated with life transitions and the variety of obstacles we face daily, together with your strengths and previous success, we can work together to create your desired outcome and find a solution to your presenting concern. For adults, this will include solutions + goals, and for kids, it will include exploring solutions in their language of play.

Stepping out of your comfort zone can be a difficult experience. In order to grow we must take that leap. My role is to join individuals taking those risks and create a safe place to explore the possibilities. My approach can help people develop new insights into themselves by healing trauma and recognizing their inherent strengths. Using their own strengths people grow confidence to be their true self. I specialize in working with athletes, first responders, and survivors of disaster, but I am open to working with anyone wanting to improve their mental health and/or heal from their trauma.

My ideal client is open to believing that change and growth are possible. They are ready to be vulnerable and willing to sit with the uncomfortable feelings that counseling inevitably brings up. They are open to the idea of letting me sit with them in that pain and discomfort so that they can become their true selves. Their issues can be around self-esteem, relationships, perfectionism, anxiety, depression, social anxiety, and everyday barriers that get in the way of living the life they want to live. My ideal client is ready to find out what they truly want out of life and explore that even when it may be scary.

My ideal client could be of any age or gender/ they could have one or many issues that they need help with as I have a number of years of experience with all types of problems. The individual would want to talk and share their issues and be open to understand a range of options they could use. They would be willing to work on their issues and to grow personally. Their efforts would likely have a positive effect in their daily lives and the lives of others around them. I feel the single most important need is to be able to listen to the person and to try and understand their needs and wants.

Are you concerned with aspects of your behavior and want to understand their root causes? Are you and your partner needing guidance to work through challenges in your relationship and improve the quality and depth of your intimacy? Are you wanting to feel more safe and at home in your own skin? I view counseling as a sacred container which supports your innate healing capacity to emerge. Just as a doctor does not “heal” a broken bone, therapy does not heal the wounds of the heart and soul. Instead, we create a safe space together in which your powerful inner healing capacity is supported to emerge.

I became a therapist because I believe in the transformative power of therapy and its ability to destigmatize mental health. I really enjoy working with people who are interested and open to building a strong therapeutic relationship - one based on empathy, loyalty, and trust. Witnessing my clients feel respected, cared for, and understood as they learn to navigate their mental well-being is an amazing process to witness. I am also a LGBTQIA+ allied therapist. I welcome working with couples. Relationships can be tough, and challenges in relationships can often benefit from a impartial, professional perspective.

Brené Brown says one of the bravest things you can do is to just show up, and here you are, taking a huge step in your journey toward healing. Regardless of what step you're on, I truly look forward to getting to know you. Many of us have experienced life’s ups and downs, and some of those downs are often troubling, distressing, or traumatic. You’ve probably felt like the light at the end of the tunnel doesn’t exist at times (or maybe all the time). I’m here to tell you that it does exist, even though it seems so far away. I believe each of us can healthily process emotions to help heal our hearts, minds, bodies, and souls.

I can imagine this part of the process can be quite intimidating. In fact, the road leading up to this moment could have been riddled with obstacles and barriers. Whether those obstacles are fear of what others may think, past upsets from previous set-backs, or not knowing where to turn, You can get the help you deserve. Individuals that I serve are individuals who are at different walks of life that wouldn't mind having an objective view to help them navigate through the nuances of life.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
