I have worked extensively with clients who deal with depression and anxiety; as well as clients who have experienced trauma, who are diagnosed with personality or mood disorders, addiction and dual disorders, and clients who deal with intrusive and negative thoughts.
As a therapist, my goal is not to fix, change or solve, but rather to empower, enlighten and support you on your journey to achieve your goals. I believe in creating a comfortable and non-judgemental safe space that fosters collaborations and personal growth. Seeking therapy can be difficult, but you don’t have to go through it alone. I utilize a person-centered approach, combining Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and DBT with other therapeutic techniques to assist in gaining insight, self empowerment and personal growth.

Do you feel that things are beyond your control these days? Do you believe you have the power to heal, protect and build your resilience, regaining control which is key to embracing and developing a healthier and happier you? I believe we all experience varying degrees of emotional pain, sadness, frustration, self-doubt, and anxiety. These feelings create barriers prohibiting us from being our best selves.

I am a compassionate, person-centered therapist specializing in religious trauma, anxiety, addressing the impact that institutionalized systems have on a person, and general trauma.
Do you have a hard time fully feeling your emotions? Does it feel expectations that you “Should” be doing things a certain way? Are the stressors of life starting to get overwhelming? I utilize mindfulness, connection with the body, and education on mental health symptomatology to help cope with the stressors of life. Additionally, mental health must also address and acknowledge systemic barriers and injustices, which also impact a person’s wellness. My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, religious trauma and general trauma.

I would love to meet with you and explore ways to help you finally unlock the cages of depression and anxiety.
Trapped inside a life of depression and anxiety that doesn’t seem to have any escape? You find that your energy and motivation for life has diminished. You feel isolated and alone even though you have family and friends close to you. The voice you thought you had seems as though no one really hears it. You feel as though you are being ignored. Wanting to emerge from this life of torment as an empowered hopeful person is now your priority. The question is, where do you start in order to achieve this feat?

I work with individual adults facing a broad spectrum of challenges, including depression, anxiety, grief/loss/bereavement, life transitions, relational issues, acute and chronic medical concerns, and traumas.
I genuinely believe contacting a therapist and pursuing therapy is an act of bravery and courage. I never lose sight of that. While some issues can be addressed with brief, solutions-focused therapies, other concerns and struggles may be rooted deeper and require different therapeutic approaches. I use elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based strategies, and psychodynamic therapy to guide treatment approaches. Another thing I never lose sight of is that fact that each person is unique. The issues and concerns that bring a person to therapy have to be approached with this idea of uniqueness in mind.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
