My therapeutic approach integrates different therapeutic styles depending on your individual need, drawing from disciplines that include Crisis Therapy, EMDR and Trauma Informed Care and Brief interventions.
I have found myself to have an affinity for working with adults, the geriatric population, and individuals navigating challenging transitions in life, assisting clients to cope with social, emotional, crisis, relationship struggles, grief and trauma. Change and even progress often present emotional, relationship, behavioral and other seemingly insurmountable obstacles. My desire is to assist/walk with you to gain insight, develop goals, and increase problem solving and coping skills.

So you're looking for a change - let's get started! You might be stuck, perhaps held back by the past, not sure how to live in the present, or uncertain about moving into the future. If that's you, it's a good time for some counseling. I am a man of faith, a motorcycle rider, a runner, a reader, and one or two other things outside of counseling, just in case we still haven't connected. In counseling and support groups, I’ve spent most of my time helping people face addictions, trauma, and all the relationships in between. I often rely on the AASAT addiction training, EMDR, and EFT to help people move towards their change.

I support and empower clients struggling with a history of trauma ( EMDR/IFS); perinatal mental health; those experiencing high anxiety; clients that are highly sensitive and empathic; or those who are simply feeling the weight of life stressors and transitions.
Drawing on my education and experience, as well as my extensive training in yoga therapy, I take a holistic approach to working with clients using the mind-body connection. I truly believe that each person has an innate ability to grow, learn, and heal from life's challenges. However, in certain seasons of life, we feel stuck, tired, or forget that we are capable and resilient. As a therapist, I'm dedicated to creating a safe, nonjudgmental space to support clients in removing barriers to growth and change so they can remember and access to their truest, most authentic self.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
