As a therapist I want to help you achieve the goals that you set. To accomplish this we will work together to form a plan that can help you achieve your goals. It is my belief that having a clearly defined plan including goals and the steps to get you there will help you feel better. We will discuss your thoughts, emotions, and actions and how these effect your days. We will move at a pace that you feel comfortable with. I am a nationally certified counselor and licensed with the state of Colorado as a Psychotherapist.

I typically work with adults, teenagers, and children who are new to therapy or have had a difficult time connecting with therapists in the past. My patients often remark how our sessions can feel like a natural conversation, putting themselves at ease when trying therapy for the first time. I tend to be sought out by those who have had negative experiences in childhood whether defined as trauma, neglect, or general emotional inattention or wounding. This often looks like feeling nervous about good things happening because one wonders when the other foot is going to drop or always saying "yes" when the answer is "no."

You probably want relief more than anything. I focus on providing that immediately when we begin working together. Our relationship will become a safe space to explore, restructure, and heal parts of your life that are important to you. I am laid-back, nonjudgmental, and empathetic, but I am also challenging which I believe is important to the healing process. I would love to meet you and see if we're a good fit!

I work with adults struggling with relationship issues, addiction, depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Many of my clients have become very successful despite difficult childhoods and are curious how therapy can help to reduce their suffering, heal from past traumas, and learn healthier ways of attachment. I use elements of EMDR therapy in my approach. I am kink allied and sex positive. I invite you to come as you are. I will respect, support, and encourage you during our time in therapy.

As a psychotherapist I specialize in working with men, athletes, and adolescents as well as people suffering from anxiety, trauma, and depression . I believe that for change to occur, there must be a strong foundation of trust, safety, and openness to experience in the therapeutic relationship. I aim to cultivate healing relationships with my clients in which they can grow from these pillars to experiment with new ways of being. I view change as arising from increased awareness of our physical and emotional experience and I strive to help others develop these areas through the cultivation of mindfulness, authenticity, and openness.

I provide relational therapy to individuals, couples, and other relationship formations. I meet my clients with a warm and safe space to explore who they are, why they are, and what is in the way of thriving in their relationships with themselves and others. I believe the most powerful aspect of therapy lies within relationships, including the one between client and therapist. My work is based on a genuine, respectful and trusting relationship – and the understanding that each of us is the foremost expert in ourselves.

I help clients feel less anxious and more authentic in their relationships. I believe that many people experience struggle in their lives as a result of growing distant from their emotional compasses. I work with individual clients and couples to reconnect with these aspects of their experiences. Please note that I am only available for sessions via telehealth.

Do you want to learn how to express your feelings more effectively to your partner to strengthen your relationship? Are you a man who sees the value of getting in touch with your emotions but doesn't know where to start? Do the coping mechanisms you use right now to deal with stress feel ineffective? I help men get in touch with and understand their emotions on a deeper level. In my experience as a men's therapist, I have found that when men take the time to learn how to connect to their feelings it helps them show up as their best selves in the roles they play in life. This includes being a better partner, father, and employee

As we travel along in life, emotional pain and trauma often cause us to fracture and lose touch with ourselves, leaving us scrambling to pick up the pieces–but the good news is we don’t have to go it alone. In a world full of distraction and overstimulation, it is an act of rebellion to slow down, look within, and feel. I see myself as a guide and co-pilot to support you in exploring your emotional landscape and navigating the ever-evolving journey of self-discovery. I’ve had the honor of helping clients work through anxiety, depression, complex trauma, PTSD, addiction, terminal illness, men’s issues, and relationship troubles.

Dr. Larson-Konar believes: people have a tremendous capacity for inner strength, but sometimes we all need help accessing that strength. Therapy is a collaboration. Dr. Larson-Konar approaches therapy from a feminist and anti-racist stance, and he prizes the therapeutic relationship, ensuring that it's safe, warm, caring, and empowering. He strives to balance support with challenge. Therapy is hard work, but it's also fun, funny, and life-affirming.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
