Brené Brown defines connection as “the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship." This quote illustrates what I believe is the essence of the therapeutic relationship. I believe the relationship between therapist and client is characterized by the sacred nature of the relationship and that change and healing can occur as a result of the quality of presence, sense of safety, and connection cultivated in therapy.

Couples therapy has been found to be least effective of all therapies, thus it is important for clients to seek out therapists who are versed in the latest research on couples and marital therapy. The unique couples approach I co-created with my wife, called the Couples Synergy model, has helped thousands of couples internationally for over 25 years.

I come from a holistic, relational, and strengths-based perspective, using a dynamic approach, including advanced training in EMDR, Integrative Attachment Trauma Protocol, Interpersonal Neurobiology, Neurofeedback, TF-CBT, DBT, and SFT.
Life isn’t always easy. Sometimes, even the strongest people amongst us need a little bit of help to work through some of life’s more challenging problems. Everyone has battles to fight and hurdles to overcome at some point. Whether you struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, or any other issue, you should know that there is hope for a better tomorrow. You might be initially hesitant to seek out help and support for personal matters, but when you do, you will feel confident that you are taking a courageous first step towards getting to a better place and being a better you.

BE's specialties, training, and certifications include: Trainer for Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior, Psychologist in Hospice Care, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder Clinical Team, Depression Treatment Group, Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression, Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy.
Dr. BE connects well with people who you might not traditionally associate with counseling services to guide them through their struggles and life challenges. That drive to "have it all" that so many professionals demonstrate can also make it hard to ask for help at times when it's needed most. With both a unique "no BS" attitude and a demeanor that's connectable, Dr. BE has become a valuable asset for clients who typically didn't expect to find therapy beneficial.

My education in Nutritional and Integrative Medicine will support efforts to improve both body and mood, and Written Exposure Therapy is available if we find trauma.
Becoming skillful with yourself is the work of a lifetime. Symptoms of anxiety, grief, and depression are challenging as we live with never ending change. Life transitions involve attention to developing the ability to "ride the waves" as well as grow and heal. My work is to provide a safe and individualized space for you to accomplish this.

Connecting with my clients through empathy and compassion enables me to focus on my clients through an integrative and person-centered approach.
To me, life is like a river, sometimes peaceful and gently flowing and at other times unexpectedly rough, with rapids and unforeseen obstacles. It is my honor to sit with you in the hard, the unknown, and the unexpected, providing a calm and safe space for you to be heard. We can work together to help you discover and understand emotions unfamiliar or even unknown, navigate decisions yet to be made, and integrate your past with your present. Together, we can help you understand how stories of who you were told you were and who you have told yourself you are in the past do not have to define who you are today.

I take a holistic and integrative approach to counseling.
Anxious? Depressed? Overwhelmed? Stuck? Life is difficult. We all suffer. But you do not have to walk this path alone. I am so glad you are taking this courageous step! I want to offer you the right support where you can be seen, heard, and understood. Are you tired of waking up dreading the day or thinking there must be more to life than this? Does your mind swirl with negative self-depreciating thoughts or does your anxiety spiral out of control? Maybe you wake up feeling like a black cloud is hanging over your life? Do you have trauma that is disrupting your life and relationships? Do you have the same fights with your partner?

I am an integrative therapist, bringing a blend of body-oriented (somatic) & client-centered approaches that include positive psychology, parts work, gestalt, & transpersonal psychology.
I believe mental health is all about finding a baseline of awareness that allows you to live authentically & in a state of balance in all areas of your life. As a clinician, I avoid telling you what your mental health & wellness will look like. You will lead each session, and I tailor my approach and methods accordingly, based on whatever is showing up in the moment. I help empower you to find your ideal balance based on your experiences, observations, and needs so that you can cultivate ideal outcomes, habits, and lifestyles that help you thrive.

After 20 years in the health and wellness world I developed a deep belief that we have what we need to heal ourselves. Each of us carries an innate wisdom in our bodies and we need guidance and support to tap into that innate healing capacity. I am passionate about being witness to that process and working with individuals to creatively find our way to healing.

Integrative Therapists

What is integrative therapy?

Integrative therapy is a type of therapy that combines ideas and techniques from different therapeutic approaches depending on the needs of the individual client. By merging elements of different treatments, an integrative therapist aims to offer a more flexible approach than those who practice just one type of therapy.

How does integrative therapy work?

Integrative therapy approaches a client’s mental, physical, and emotional health in a holistic way to discover the sources of their unhealthy behavior patterns or other challenges and considers the approach most likely to lead to improvement. Among the techniques an integrative therapist may practice are cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, EMDR, mindfulness, art or music therapy, psychodynamic therapy, breathwork, family systems therapy, gestalt therapy, and trauma-informed therapy. An integrative therapist regularly evaluates the client’s progress and is prepared to pivot to a different approach if progress stalls.

How long does integrative therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for integrative therapy; people who find they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that spurred them to seek treatment. New patients should understand that it may take some time for a therapist to land on a treatment approach that best meets their needs, but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

How effective is integrative therapy?

There are hundreds of types of talk therapy, and research shows that while they vary in form, goals, and frequency, many if not all can produce similarly successful outcomes. But a single approach does not always deliver the greatest, or speediest, benefit, and so even therapists primarily trained in one model will use tools, language, techniques, or exercises from others to shape an effective treatment plan.
