Are you a parent of a child who has recently come out to you as LGBTQ+? Are you looking for non-bias support on how to best navigate supporting your child while keeping them safe? There is a lot of misinformation available to teens and adults about gender and sexual diversity. On one side there can be pressure from popular culture to choose an identity and live by that standard, and on the other side homophobic/transphobic groups impose their views as facts. It can be difficult as a parent to know what information is valid and how to best support your child.

One of my professional strengths is helping others build confidence, communication skills, and resiliency. I primarily work with youth, but serve all ages and backgrounds. By providing psychoeducation on the body and mind connection and it's responses to stress (eg: brain development, role of hormones, etc.) along with skill development, we can learn to regulate our emotions ,and how to communicate more effectively. Once we understand the Why behind our feelings and reactions we can begin to control the How in our reactions.

ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS and I accept medicaid Navigating through life can sometimes feel overwhelming. Life can kick us in the gut and making it hard to catch our breath. Sometimes feelings are overwhelming without a reason. Reaching out for help seems like one more thing. It sometimes feels like you are shattered into a billion pieces. I get it, we've all been there. I work mostly with teens, having been a troubled and angry depressed teen myself. I have seen people take the broken pieces of their lives and create beauty. I can walk with you on that journey to healing.

Wondering if this is as good as it gets? Things do change. I help people overcome their worst thoughts about themselves, in addition to behaviors that get in the way of reaching their goals, whether it be health, work or relationship related. Most of my clients express a positive relief of symptoms within the first few sessions. I have over 15 years of experience helping adolescents and adults overcome depression, anxiety, and eating related issues. Using evidence based approaches, including EMDR, I help people improve their mood, manage their anxiety, and develop a healthy relationship with food and their bodies.

Most of us are looking for peace, with ourselves, in relationships and as we move through our world. In cultivating peace, we may need support in managing difficult emotions or working through a loss or traumatic experience. Whether you are looking to manage grief, depressive symptoms or anxiety, or you desire to cultivate a deeper relationship with yourself and others, knowing our own truth is key. The answer is in each of us; we may just need a little guidance in finding it. I deeply love the work of meeting people where they are and guiding & creatively companioning them into work that enables a richer, more peaceful life.

I enjoy working with a broad spectrum of clients and issues. I love seeing clients challenge themselves, put in effort to help themselves, and have the courage to look at and see themselves with honesty and curiosity. I continuously work to expand my tools, techniques, and modalities. Recognizing how trauma affects people in various ways, I use EMDR, DBT, IFS, yoga, and mindfulness. I believe that the mind, body, and spirit all impact each other, and often incorporate elements of physical well-being for clients who are open to incorporating a more holistic approach to their mental health.

Do you feel like life is just giving it to you, and won’t let up? Are you feeling overwhelmed, unseen, invalidated, or just beat down? Maybe you just tragically lost someone special, your whole world is upside down, and your emotions have taken control. Maybe something unexpected and outside of your control happened, and you feel unsafe and unable to be. Maybe you feel numb. Maybe rage has taken over, a rage that scares the important people in your life, and honestly even scares you. Maybe the negative self talk seems constant, and you no longer have the energy to fight it. Maybe life just does not seem as bright at it once did.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
