I specialize in child/ adolescent mood and behavior disorders, child/adult trauma, parenting issues, family therapy, and child/adult life cycle issues (divorce, grief/loss, life transitions).
I view therapy as a collaborative process where we work together to reach your goal(s). Together we will identify the problem(s) and figure out a solution. I work with both long-term and short-term issues. Sometimes skills and practice are needed to change the current way of doing things, and other times information or deeper self-exploration is helpful.

My approach to supporting clients relies on the neurobiological and systemic processes at work when challenging and traumatic events occur. I have been providing therapy and coaching services in Colorado for over a decade and specialize in delivering therapeutic care to complex trauma survivors of all ages. I have extensive knowledge in working with those who have a desire to increase their ability to navigate and process traumatic experiences, connect more meaningfully with their loved ones, and be more present and satisfied in their lives. Trauma isolates us; I believe that connection is our most powerful tool to fight back.

I am a therapist because I want to support individuals, couples, and families dealing with relational issues, family/relationship conflict, difficult life transitions, anxiety, and depression. Maybe you have tried time and time again to break old patterns. Or maybe you are just now noticing patterns from your family of origin you would like to break. I know that it can take a lot of energy and courage to begin therapy and I hope that my non-judgmental and collaborative approach will help create an environment where you feel safe to explore your relationships with others and yourself.

Are you, your teen, your partner, or your family experiencing ongoing struggles that create frustration, disconnection and dissatisfaction? Are your relationships characterized by fleeting moments of connection amidst day-to-day busyness? Perhaps you want to build skills to communicate better with others, while learning to be less hard on yourself and those around you. Or maybe you feel like you are having the same fight over and over with your partner, family, or loved ones with no resolution. Although you try to work through conflicts, you keep coming back to the same central issues, experiencing gridlock & disappointment.

I also have a large number of teen clients, as well as Law Enforcement and US Military personnel.
I do virtual therapy with clients here in Colorado. Most of my clients are seeking assistance in mitigating the stressors in their lives. Family relationships; grief/loss; difficulties with parenting or accepting parenting; substance use; crises of faith...all these issues are present in my practice. Most are looking for direction; someone to help sort through the problem and achieve an adaptive resolution. They are distressed that they are at odds with family; concerned over the loss of control with substances; and some are wondering about their purpose in the world.

I am receiving training and supervision from Zina Ortiz in Altered States of Consciousness Therapy and I currently specialize in the following populations: BIPOC communities, neurodivergent individuals, members of the LGBT+ community, and survivors of domestic violence, all aged adolescent or above.
With a personal journey of receiving a late Autism diagnosis, I've cultivated a passion for advocating and supporting underrepresented populations within society. This drive led me to pursue a career bridging research and clinical psychology. My approach integrates transpersonal modalities and client-centered therapy, alongside population-specific research, to create safe spaces fostering healing and growth for individuals who, like myself, may have been overlooked. I am committed to ensuring everyone finds the support they need to thrive.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
