LCSW trained in CBT and motivational interviewing, as well as TBRI. I have worked with domestic violence and sexual assault survivors, veterans, and kids and teenagers. I love working with teens and kids, and I have a specialized background in trauma of all kinds. To me, therapy is about the connection between the therapist and the client, and about that attunement and understanding. Beyond that, all the training in the world is secondary!

I also have experience with schizophrenia, mood disorders, as well as personality disorders and addiction.
Traveling through your journey in life is a powerful experience with unexpected bumps in the road, often creating feelings of uncertainty and self-doubt. When we experience thoughts and feelings that are uncomfortable such as depression, anxiety, stress, and changes in mood, we tend to also feel it physically in our bodies through lethargy, pain, and changes in sleep and weight. Inversely, what we put in our bodies often times impacts how we feel emotionally, without often times even knowing it. Using a mind-body therapeutic approach allows you to identify skills for a means of transformation in your emotional and physical life.

Through this approach, I have witnessed many find solace and heal from issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, challenges in relationships, and even psychosis and schizophrenia.
It is my belief that we all have an innate desire to connect, feel heard, and be understood. My therapeutic approach is grounded in this belief, and it is my hope that we will create a meaningful therapy that is validating and encouraging, yet simultaneously challenging enough to be a catalyst for meaningful growth. Because change often occurs as a byproduct of a connected and understanding relationship, a critical task of therapy is to help you explore, understand, and challenge what meanings you have made of your experiences, and in so doing, facilitate a new experience of yourself or your relationships.

I specialize in treating children ages 2 years and up with PTSD/complex trauma, behavioral concerns and developmental disabilities. I also specialize in working with first respond and combat veterans. When working with children, I use client-centered play therapy as this allows the child to communicate through play. For my adult clients who want to heal from trauma, I provide a space to unload the trauma because trauma is a heavy burden. Together we unravel the trauma and work through it to come out the other side to achieve a healthy present and future.

When you are alone you understand why you feel lonely. When you are in a relationship and you feel you are alone, that is different. Our need for relationships is hardwired into our biology. It goes against the grain for us to remain alone during our lifespan. However, relationships are tough. They require humbleness, honesty, and sacrifice. As a Certified Gottman Method Therapist, I am trained on the work of Drs. John & Julie Gottman and their over 5 decades of research on relationships.

I have great passion for what I do and truly love my job. Most clients tell me that they find me compassionate, open, and accepting. I am directive in my approach and try to let my clients know what I'm thinking. I believe therapy is a collaborative process where we work together to discover what it is that you want to change in your life and figure out what approach will work best for you.

Looking for a good psychologist is hard and actually finding one is even harder. This is probably because understanding people, why they are struggling, and how to help takes hard work. Real change requires more than any quick fix or simple solution can offer. If you’re continually struggling in life, it might be time to look beyond the surface and explore the root of things. I will work with you in a depth-oriented manner that aims to deepen your self-understanding and create important and lasting change.

My ideal client is one who feels that they are stuck and has found it hard to find a way out. They are seeking purpose and are tired of living an unfulfilled life. They may have made some mistakes and need assistance on the journey of reconciliation. They could be dealing with a loss so detrimental that it has halted any forward progress in life and they now need to understand the new person they will become. They could have suffered tremendously at the hands of others and the pain of the past is still present and they need to find away to make sense of it all. My ideal client has been afflicted with the human condition.

I feel called to strengthen families and help others find freedom, healing, and wholeness while promoting resilience. Walking with people and witnessing their growth is a true honor. Understanding the complexities of human nature begins with the assumption that people are multifaceted, which is why I strive to understand individuals through a biological-psychological-social-spiritual lens. My deep interest in people, problems, and processes has allowed me to develop the ability to see the complex patterns and interrelatedness of understanding individuals within their respective contexts.

Psychosis Therapists

What’s the most effective treatment for psychosis?

The most effective treatment for psychosis is coordinated specialty care. In this model, a team of professionals works with a patient to address all aspects of the underlying disorder. This approach incorporates individual or group therapy, employment and education support, family support and education, medication management (which often involves low doses of antipsychotics), and case management to facilitate problem-solving as needed.

When should people seek treatment for psychosis?

People should seek immediate treatment at the earliest indication of psychosis. Symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized or blocked speech, and agitated body movements. Early signs that a person may be developing a disorder that will lead to psychosis include suspiciousness of others, memory problems and distractibility, an inability to think clearly, rapid or nonsensical speech, withdrawal from friends or family, aggression toward others, and sensitivity to bright lights or noises.

What if psychosis is left untreated?

Without treatment, psychosis can have significant repercussions, including injuries, job loss, homelessness, financial or legal trouble, ruptured relationships, and suffering for the person and their family. While early treatment for psychosis often yields the best results, there is no point past which it becomes useless to seek treatment. At any point, treatment can make a difference.

How do I get someone else to seek treatment for psychosis?

It’s extremely difficult to watch a loved one suffer from hallucinations, delusions, and other elements of psychosis—sometimes exacerbated by their fears of treatment. Have a conversation with them in a quiet space and maintain a calm, supportive tone. Share your concerns about behaviors you’ve observed, suggest treatment, and explain the potential benefits. Listen carefully to their responses. The person may not be ready after one conversation, but with time, they may come around.
