I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and provide support for adolescents and young adults. I have experience in both clinical and school settings. I have lived in several different states and gained valuable experiences, from working at a private school for students with learning differences in New Jersey, to working as both a middle school counselor in Colorado, and a therapist at a group private practice. Along the way, I have gained experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD and executive functioning.

I enjoy working with children and families. I specialize in divorce, grief/loss counseling, but I work with a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues. My first priority is to listen to your needs so that I can fully understand how I can best support you or your family. I am a solution-focused therapist. I believe in working together to resolve the challenges you may face in your life. I look at evidence-based approaches as tools to help you reach your goals. I hope this leads to long-term growth and change. I am also an EMDR trained therapist.

Utilizing an eclectic approach, Kenna draws from various modalities to tailor treatment to clients' unique needs. Kenna is EMDR-trained and also incorporates attachment-focused interventions, parts work, and more to create a holistic and effective therapeutic experience.

I guide clients in discovering and identifying the root causes of some of their worries and distress. When we work on addressing the source of the current and past issues, we are able to make positive changes in our lives and develop strategies together. My approach is to adapt to your unique needs. I like to create a welcoming environment for clients using a casual approach that allows for a client to feel supported. There is no right way to do therapy and I want to collaborate with a client to customize therapy to their needs. I utilize psychoeducation, humor, and therapy techniques to help encourage clients to work towards their individual goals.

"Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional" (Buddhist saying). Although it takes time and effort to transform suffering into tolerable pain, in the process, there are opportunities for us to grow, strengthen and gain greater clarity as to who we are and how we'd like to move through our lives. In my work with patients, I am present with them through their dark times, help them rely on the strengths they already possess, point toward opportunities that they may not be seeing, and develop their innate gifts which might otherwise remain dormant.

My focus is humanistic, trauma-informed, and relational/cultural, which means two main things: 1) I view counseling as a collaborative partnership between equals. All individuals are experts in their own lives and possess the ability to move toward awareness, acceptance, and connection. 2) I believe external factors often influence thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and that individuals can grow and even thrive if they are willing and ready to look honestly at whatever has them feeling "stuck." I often help people think through and reprocess complex developmental, psychological and cultural trauma influencing symptoms they present.

I love working with kids, teens and young adults on creating attainable goals, developing strategies and coping skills to work on and manage their anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. By teaching healthy, fun and creative coping skills by helping them overcome their own challenges and find peace and balance. My goal is to hear your pain, trouble and hurt and help validate your feelings so together you can heal, learn from and move forward from your past experiences and have a wonderful future.

Mr. Burks brings 25+ years of academic and clinical experience to his work. He has been featured in the media as a guest healthcare professional. He graduated with honors in Clinical Counseling from Adams State University, Clinical Management and Leadership from George Washington University, and Mind-Body Medicine on a Presidential Scholarship with a concentration in Integrative Mental Health from Saybrook University. He furthered his studies in the Clinical Depth Psychology doctoral program at Pacifica Graduate Institute and graduate programs at the Maryland University of Integrative Health and the University of Santa Monica.

Are you experiencing anxiety and/or other symptoms from a trauma or change in life circumstance? Perhaps you’re a new Mom or are adding another kiddo to your family. I have spent the past 9 years counseling; I have also supervised other counselors in training and I teach / use both trauma-focused cognitive behavior therapy and solution-focused brief therapy, to help get to the heart of the issue and make lasting change, efficiently. I also recently have been trained in EMDR. I will listen without judgement and create a safe space where you can openly share and develop trust, and we will work collaboratively to set goals together.

LCSW trained in CBT and motivational interviewing, as well as TBRI. I have worked with domestic violence and sexual assault survivors, veterans, and kids and teenagers. I love working with teens and kids, and I have a specialized background in trauma of all kinds. To me, therapy is about the connection between the therapist and the client, and about that attunement and understanding. Beyond that, all the training in the world is secondary!

I believe along with a variety of therapeutic methods it is ultimately the relationship that is the main catalyst for healing. My work has been focusing on assisting couples to improve their communication and to assist clients to explore and to awake their inner strength, to develop skills and abilities for self sufficiency, and to work on moving forward from their past experiences.

I strive to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where the needs and challenges of my clients can be understood and addressed. With my multi cultural life experience and background, I incorporate cultural competency and cultural sensitivity to accommodate and respect differences in opinions, values, and attitudes of the minoritized population. I encourage my clients to talk about their experiences in order to gain insights into patterns of negative thinking, identify harmful and behavior patterns.
