I also have years of treating various mood, depression and anxiety disorders, substance use related disorders, trauma, stress-related disorders, and grief.

To incorporate change, I utilize unconditional positive regard along with cognitive and dialectical behavior strategies; these assist in the regulation of emotions, stress tolerance, & effective management of interpersonal conflicts.
Change is not easy; it is difficult; it takes courage. Although challenging, change is possible. In order to change, the individual must have the motivation & be given the opportunity to do so. I will work with you in a collaborative effort to improve your emotional state. My goal is to provide you with an appropriate, caring, & supportive environment where the steps towards change can become a possibility. Empathy is paramount to my practice. My theoretical orientations are primarily Cognitive-behavioral & Person-centered; although, I also use various eclectic & insight/awareness-oriented approaches.

I am also experienced in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT), which are evidence based treatments for anxiety and depression.
Life isn’t simple, in fact it can be very messy at times, but within that chaos there is always growth. I believe that with every difficulty we face, we improve our own resiliency, learn about ourselves and our reactions to stressors and can make more informed decisions moving forward. I specialize in working with trauma, depression, anxiety, mood instability, adolescent support, sexual abuse, blended families and domestic violence.

I integrate Dialectical Behavior Therapy ( DBT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy.
I work with individuals who are struggling with emotions (low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, anger, lack of fulfillment, and fear). Individuals may need guidance to heal effects of trauma, or may struggle with a life transition such as divorce, loss or feeling stuck. Through deep exploration, individuals gain insight into their internal world, learn to accept and love all of themselves and create a sense of balance and peace. I work with individuals to heal their deepest wounds and feel encouraged, clear, and empowered. My goal is to help each individual bring our work from session into their life.

Setting goals collaboratively is important, along with seeking out ways to deal with immediate symptoms, learning DBT skills like mindfulness, working on communication and relationships, and learning soul care (mental and emotional care).
Seeking out healing is a brave step to take and it shows that you want to live a healthier life and deal with the issues that are keeping you from that. We cannot always change the things that happen to us in life, but we can choose to seek help and healing to live a better future. So good job already taking this first step! I would love to partner with you on your journey to a healthier and happier life.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
