As a trauma therapist I specialize in working with pregnancy, sexual assault, and abuse.
*I CURRENTLY HAVE A WAITLIST FOR NEW CLIENTS; I AM HAPPY TO PROVIDE REFERRALS TO THERAPIST WITH MORE IMMEDIATE OPENINGS* Are you coping with trauma? Was your birth traumatic but you don't want to complain because "it could have been worse?" Have you gone through a rape or abuse and while everyone means well, they just don't get it? Is your mood all over the place and you are tired of feeling this way? Trauma can leave you feeling alone, unsure and frightened; it might be hard on your relationships or you might be avoiding things because of intrusive thoughts or emotions that come up.

Are you excelling in your life but feeling disconnected from yourself? Do you find yourself going through the motions, efficiently handling tasks, yet feeling oddly detached? You've mastered the art of pushing through, but at what cost? For high-achievers like you, the relentless pursuit of excellence can lead to a paradox: outward success coupled with inner emptiness. You've climbed the ladder, but something feels missing. The coping mechanisms that propelled you forward – perfectionism, hyper-focus, emotional detachment – may now be holding you back from a truly fulfilling life.

Counseling is about launching you into a new, better chapter. You want to show up more authentically and have deeper fulfillment in your relationships. A part of you knows how you want to live, but something's in the way: hesitation, anger, shame, obsessions, comfort-seeking habits. You don't want to dwell on the past, and you don't want it dictating the years ahead. Imagine genuinely being your own best friend. Picture what it's like to have an inner world that knows peace, clarity, and hope even in the face of conflict and uncertainty. Does that sound better than what you have now? That's what I want for you.

Growth and healing are a huge part of our life process. And, that doesn't mean it isn't hard. Everything we experience molds who we are and how we see ourselves and the world. Sometimes those experiences are really rough. Our current society is one that encourages people to “pick themselves up by the bootstraps” and keep moving forward without help. There is nothing wrong with getting support on your journey. A new perspective and support could be just what you need to move forward in your life in a more fulfilling way. I believe we all have what we need already inside of us. Sometimes we just need a little help to remember it.

Racing heart, sweating, can't focus, can't sit still. Another fight, another emotional outburst, another sense of failure. To get through life every day can seem like an extra big challenge when you are managing fear, worry, sadness, and confusion. You often feel alone in your struggles and not sure who you can talk to. The solution: To find someone who can listen and help you understand your story, who can guide you to find your own internal power, and who can help you connect with those closest to you. And someone to help you bring all the pieces together toward the common goal of finding joy and connection in your life.

Not accepting new clients
Physical and emotional hygiene are equally important. When we are not tending to our mental wellness, like our physical health, this too can result in suffering and misery. Most of us were taught to give all we have for others, and then some. How do we balance caring for ourselves and others? Learning to balance our wants with those of others can be a difficult habit to break out of. With willingness, courage, and help, I believe everyone can learn new skills and understanding to create a life with less chaos and more contentment. “I never said it would be easy, I only said it would be worth it.” Mae West - Therapy in a nutshell.

My clinical expertise is in working with survivors of sexual abuse, sexual trauma and interpersonal/domestic violence. In addition, I have experience working with people who struggle with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and other forms of trauma. My belief is that the world creates narratives that people learn to live by to survive. As a result, deconstructing and recreating healthy narratives through talk therapy, skill building, and building trust within the therapeutic relationship fosters healthy growth for the clients I serve.

Life’s journey can be tumultuous at times depending on the road you are on at any particular moment.Perhaps your road was difficult to begin with.No matter the journey the need for support at times is invaluable. When I work with my clients I will take the time to understand their history, their family, and in general their world that has made them unique. Our past and the way in which we have lived it can define who we are today.I treat the whole person or the whole family through the integration of evidence based therapies and customize each treatment to fit the needs of my clients.

My ideal client comes to therapy seeking a space of understanding and acceptance, where all parts of their identity are embraced. They might be grappling with issues related to gender identity, sexual orientation, spirituality, or navigating neurodivergence in a world that often misunderstands them. Their challenges could range from dealing with the aftermath of religious trauma, seeking balance in their mental health, to finding harmony within the intersectionality of their identity and personal experiences. I also work with disordered eating, relationship to food and body, as well as body and muscle dysmorphia.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
