I love hearing people's stories, diving into understanding the reasons behind their behaviors and helping them to make meaningful change in their lives. So many of us struggle to live according to our values and hold ourselves back from pursuing out best self and I am here to help you along that growth journey. I have a passion for helping people overcome past trauma, confront and change relational issues and grow more fully into their authentic selves. My favorite people to work with are those that are insightful, motivated and willing to put in the work to achieve their goals.

We all need help sometimes. This help often comes from family members and friends, but sometimes we need a different type of help - help that comes from someone who prioritizes your growth, values, and perspective. Someone who can listen without judging, see your strengths and help you build upon them. Someone who can help you write your own story and teach you strategies to deal with troubling thoughts or feelings. Someone who can help you through a stressful or traumatic situation. Someone who gets to know you, and then challenges some of the ways you've been doing things.

Stop beating yourself up! We all engage in some unhealthy behaviors at times and we don't need to feel ashamed of these struggles. Maybe we cope with stress by having an unhealthy relationship with food (binging, purging, restricting) or by engaging in self-destructive patterns in an attempt to deal with our extreme feelings. I can help you process your past traumas and allow you to create a new path for yourself based on self-compassion. The world doesn't have to be a scary, lonely place.

I enjoy working with those who wish to improve insight, increase emotional engagement, and remove unconscious barriers to their own success. My goal is to partner with you, not simply to alleviate suffering, but to help you get the most out of your life. As a therapist, I empathize attachment, the therapeutic relationship, mutuality, and intersubjectivity. I use an eclectic approach based on each individual’s needs and desired growth, often with an emphasis on psychodynamic concepts and techniques. With over two decades of experience, I come to the table with a seasoned and tailored approach.

In addition to counseling, I offer neuropsychological assessment / evaluation for a number of issues including ADD / ADHD, Learning Disorders (LD), and dementia.
Life can be wonderful, but often comes with many surprisingly hard twists and turns (e.g., marriage, divorce, adolescence, relocating, mid-life, crises and loss). Changes in health and chronic medical issues can be among the most difficult as they can be lasting, painful, and with serious consequences. Sometimes you need someone trustworthy, knowledgable and caring to walk you through some of the hardest times and I would be honored to do so.

Testing and Evaluation Therapists

What is a psychological evaluation?

A psychological evaluation is a test or assessment most commonly administered by a trained psychologist that is intended to be used in the diagnosis of specific psychological conditions, such as ADHD, mood disorders, personality disorders, dementia or Alzheimer's, and learning disabilities. Psychological evaluations can help inform future treatment decisions and help direct clients to professionals and resources that may be most helpful, such as potential therapy options or additional school supports.

Can psychological evaluations be done on individuals of any age group?

Psychological evaluations are conducted on individuals of all ages and can be beneficial to individuals across the lifespan. However, specific types of evaluations may be most frequently conducted on individuals of certain age groups. For instance, ADHD or learning disability testing is often conducted in children ages 4-12--the period of time when ADHD symptoms most commonly emerge. In contrast, cognitive functioning assessments, such as those conducted to diagnose dementia, are most commonly conducted in elderly individuals. Clients should ensure that the psychologist they are seeing has specific expertise in conducting evaluations in their age group to ensure they receive a correct diagnosis.

How long does a psychological evaluation take?

Psychological evaluations vary in length depending on the test being administered and the goals of the evaluation; however, most evaluations are 2-4 hours in length. Some evaluations may take as long as 8 hours but can often be spread across multiple days. In some cases, clients will also attend an intake session or interview, which can help the psychologist assess client functioning outside of the testing environment.

How should I prepare for a psychological test and evaluation?

Individuals do not need to prepare for psychological tests or evaluations in most cases, as they are intended to measure a client's baseline psychological status without test-specific preparation. However, clients may want to brainstorm a list of questions for their psychologist about any tests they are receiving prior to the assessment, including what potential outcomes may mean for what next steps the client should take.
