"There will never be another day like the one you are living. There will never be another chance to pass this way again." It is well known that we do not have an infinite amount of time. The world throws us some curves and, in order to hang on and make the most of what we have, reaching out and asking for interaction and communication with someone capable of listening is good practice. Counseling preferences include, but are not limited to; cognitive behavioral therapy, storytelling, traditional talk therapy, desensitization. Specialties include knowledge of and practice in autism, adoption, divorce, and human development .

I know that I feel my best when I’m secure in my relationships: with myself, my spouse, my children, and community. This has created a practice for me of paying attention, listening and participating in conversations that both nurture and challenge these relationships. I will create a space, through our relationship, for you to do the same. And if it is your child that is seeking that safe space my playroom invites curiosity and emotions of all sorts. It is a safe space to work through trauma; with play as the language and toys as tools, and a soft spot to land when it gets hard and scary.

I help people going through relationship break-ups, especially from destructive Narcissistic partners....Therapy is a process of self discovery that enables you to recognize unhealthy patterns of behavior and learn effective coping strategies for optimal health and well-being. I provide a safe environment for psychotherapy through a warm, open communication style. I believe psychotherapy is a collaborative undertaking between patient and therapist; that listening, understanding and respecting each patient's unique story is necessary for optimal treatment.

Journeying along an unexpected parenting path can often feel isolating and overwhelming. Perhaps your family is working through challenging behaviors at home or school, navigating a diagnosis, or maybe you'd like guidance with bringing increased confidence and connection into your parenting. I'm a neurodiversity-affirming therapist whose passion for working with families was born out of my career in education and my own unexpected parenting path.

I became a Licensed Professional Counselor after over 35 years as a healthcare professional. I wanted to understand the mind-body reciprocal interactions and the power of the unconscious mind. If mental and/or physical suffering has left you feeling isolated, betrayed, and exhausted you may believe there is no way out. If you feel stuck at every turn, you are in paradox. Being in paradox is an indication that you are facing a profound opportunity to become your authentic self. If you are willing to take the deep journey into you, I am not afraid. I have seen the blackest black imaginable. There is a way out.

Are you tense, jumpy or tearful, but not sure why? Do you have irritability, anxiety, depression, poor concentration, troubled sleep or flashbacks? Trauma—past or present—can affect many aspects of your life. I have specialized in treatment of survivors of childhood abuse or adult trauma for 20 years. I have found talk therapy is a start but if you have intrusive thoughts or images, intense emotional reactions, or loss of time, please consider Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy or Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy (DNMS) therapy for additional relief.

If life has you feeling off-course, it is okay. There are several holistic options and prescription medications available to you and I want to be your guide and support through that process. Primarily, I enjoy working with children, teenagers, and adults who need ongoing support. As a Spanish language learner, I am comfortable speaking Spanish with many Spanish speakers and I continue to enjoy teaching rudimentary Spanish as part of my services.

I work with clients who have neurodevelopmental concerns. Clients I typically see, their parents are concerned their children either have ADHD, Autism, Language deficits, intellectual disabilities, or family dynamics that have impacted their daily functioning. At times, aggression, mood, or trauma issues may be present; which make it difficult to determine what the issue is. Additionally, parents periodically want clarification on how their child thinks, and a neuropsychological assessment is best suited in this situation. Difficulties with learning, understanding, or emotional regulation may lead parents to chose this route.

I believe that each client, child or adult, is an individual and should be treated as such. Because of this I tailor my treatment modality to fit the specific needs of those whom I see. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I have the ability to work with a wide variety of clientele. I have a passion for working with children and adolescents because of the complicated issues so many of them face. Overall, I seek to create the safety of a mutual relationship in which clients can begin to discover their inspiration from within.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
