My name is AnnElizabeth Card, I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (Colo. PSY0006208). I am a feminist psychologist who works from a culturally informed perspective. I believe the important work of psychotherapy is to enhance present skills and develop stronger experiences of identity, choices, and self-determination. I see my role as helping you decide who you, who you might choose to become, and how you will respond to your goals, struggles, and strengths. My therapeutic approach focuses on the stories we hold about ourselves and how they inform our identities.

I believe life is filled with opportunity for growth. I can help you grow your capacity to enjoy life and outgrow painful parts of yourself that need help. Parts caused by trauma, childhood events, life stressors or relationships. Are you an adult child of emotionally immature parents - or involved with immature people who don't prioritize your well being? Do you have unmet needs you want to finally learn to meet? I teach skills and boundaries to help you feel better quickly, and I help heal longer term patterns. Together we'll release painful burdens from body, mind & spirit to create a healthy sense of self.

We are all human and we all have feelings. Many times, those feelings affect the thoughts we experience and thus affect our lifestyle, our relationships, our loved ones, our jobs, our opportunities, and so much more. The feelings and thoughts begin from the stressors we encounter, the unexpected situations that arise, the memories we have experienced, and then suddenly we are at a loss of how to move forward in making life decisions.

Are you feeling stuck, depressed, or coping with trauma? Are you struggling to find the words that you feel, and when you do speak it’s misunderstood and not taken the way you meant it, but it still feels like people are walking all over you? Have you experienced sexual assault and don't feel like you can share your experience with anyone because you're afraid of judgment? Trauma can make us feel alone, misunderstood, and overwhelmed. It can take a toll on us and our ability to connect in relationships when we don't know how to deal with these emotions. -now offering EMDR

My ideal client is someone who is ready for change in their life. My experience with clients has been that when someone is ready to make a change in their life they will work hard to achieve these goals. Often my clients may not know what that goal is, so it becomes my role to help guide them through this process, helping them see what they want and how to get there. I have been working in the mental health field for over 40 years. I started working in mental health facilities in my early 20's while I was in college. I have worked with adults and adolescents in all kinds of modalities, yet I seemed to focus more toward young people and their families with substance abuse problems and anxiety. Some of that stems from having to deal with my own addictions in my late teens and finally getting clean and sober at age 20. Thus, I understand what it is like to be overwhelmed by addiction and the need to engage in a recovery process.

"The only way out is through." I am committed to helping my clients discover what it means to truly live fully -- to experience healing in relationships, to understand their strength, to embrace their uniquenesses and to live a life of wholeness and adventure. At the core, I believe that we are relational beings, and while relationships are often the primary sources of our pain, they are also the primary conduits to our healing. Together we will find ways THROUGH the pain and into freedom. There is too much LIFE to be lived...too much adventure to be had...

I enjoy helping people get along with each other - with their spouses, parents, children, friends, coworkers. Relationships are often complicated by issues from the past, and I work at a deep level to address present day and past issues. I like to help heal individuals who have been traumatized recently or in the past. My approach is love based, and focused on reducing stress and healing fears. I focus more on healing which leads to permanent change than on temporary behavioral change, and I integrate the most recent brain research. I also honor and integrate my patients' spiritual beliefs and values into the therapy.
