Welcome! Thanks for taking the time to look at my profile. I have to be honest, I don’t like writing these “therapist bios” because it is so difficult to accurately describe the therapeutic process and it often sounds cheesy but here goes my best attempt. I have over 10 years of experience providing individual counseling services to college students, young adults and members of the LGBTQ+ communities including specialized training in providing services for a variety of concerns including trauma and addiction. My approach is flexible, person centered and I am adaptable to the needs of each individual I work with.

Talking about sex, relationships, and intimacy can be incredibly difficult. Throughout our lives many of us have been confronted with fear and shame-based messages, inaccurate and harmful information, and often problematic ideas regarding sexuality. These experiences can leave us feeling confused or ashamed, ultimately impacting our ability to tap into our full and authentic selves. Exploring these issues in a therapeutic setting with a trained, sex-positive therapist can be life-changing. A sex-positive framework means that I affirm all consensual sexual activity (or lack of sexual activity) as positive, healthy, and pleasurable.

I am not currently taking any reunification cases. You did it. Just by taking the first step to look up a therapist you have started your journey towards healing. I take a relational perspective in therapy and don't believe in defining someone by their symptoms. However, these symptoms such as anxiety, depression, or anger can get in the way of what we want to be able to accomplish in our lives and make even the happy elements harder to enjoy. I can help provide a space to understand these difficult emotions that hang over you so you can accomplish your goals, whatever they may be.

We'd like to welcome you to therapy. If you've had therapy before and found yourself searching for a deeper experience or struggled with the administrative process, we hope to provide you with something different. We view therapy as an experience that goes beyond the session, striving for care and intention to underscore all facets of what it means to be a client - from how it feels to enter the waiting area to the responsiveness of our staff. We also take care during scheduling so that we can thoughtfully suggest a therapist when a recommendation is requested.

Hello! I'm Emily. I specialize in supporting children, teens, and adults who are navigating various impacts of trauma. Much of my work has been centered on addressing trauma occurring within the context of relationships. Therefore, I see the therapeutic relationship as the most important aspect of therapy, and show up in a compassionate and authentic way that allows for development of a trusting relationship. As our relationship strengthens we may explore the strategies you have used to survive and cope during difficult life experiences, while also acknowledging how these strategies may no longer be serving you.

My approach begins with the belief that the human experience is to know both joy and pain, & every variation of emotion in-between, often in the same moment. I believe that which has been wounded in relationship must be healed in relationship. In order for your true self to emerge it must be witnessed. Just as our deepest glory must be held, so too must our wounds. In these places we will engage a posture of curiosity of how those wounds have impacted your style of relating and the ways you have had to adapt to cope.

I have been working in the mental health field for over 40 years. I started working in mental health facilities in my early 20's while I was in college. I have worked with adults and adolescents in all kinds of modalities, yet I seemed to focus more toward young people and their families with substance abuse problems and anxiety. Some of that stems from having to deal with my own addictions in my late teens and finally getting clean and sober at age 20. Thus, I understand what it is like to be overwhelmed by addiction and the need to engage in a recovery process.

Each of us has a unique history and is often remarkably creative in setting up the life we want- although sometimes we need help resolving some inner conflict before enjoying it. Even the most painful patterns develop for good reason. What has helped you to survive in one environment, may not work in others. This can be the source of significant suffering. I work with clients to peel back the layers of identity and examine the forces shaping the way they think and act. With this kind of exploration, greater well-being is possible.

I work with a variety of people: adults, adolescents, and couples. I work with men who aren’t sure if therapy will work for them. I work with teens rightfully suspicious of an adult’s ability to help. I work with couples and families through issues such as addiction, finances, parenting, and trust. And I work with people of a wide range of demographics on understanding their own patterns in how they relate to themselves, and how they relate to others. This is the meaning of relational therapy.
