Has someone in your life told you that drinking, or drugs are problem for you?... They're wrong! Your drinking is not the problem, it's a solution! Many of the individuals, couples & families I work with are overcoming addiction or healing together from those painful experiences.
Anyone can struggle in their most important relationships, in spite of hard work & the best intentions. Trying to fix your own relationship difficulties can feel like trying to do brain surgery on yourself. If you try hard & still get stuck in repeating patterns of conflict, don't know how to talk about your feelings without starting a fight, feel misunderstood, or maybe feel like you're not high on your partner's priority list, you are not alone. I specialize in Emotionally Focused Therapy, an evidenced-based map to help you get the love, closeness & sense of security in your most important relationships that you deserve to have.

Witnessing the toll of addiction and trauma, and how uncomfortable it can feel to access mental health support through an employer, sparked my fire to offer services in a private practice.
My mental health journey was guided by a few VIPs who showed me, sometimes pushed me, towards the way out of darkness. Their warmth, empathy, honesty, and loyalty inspired my approach to therapy. I strive to embody these qualities, creating an environment built on trust, understanding, and authenticity. I am deeply committed to supporting first responders through their unique challenges and individuals who are victims (survivors!) of crimes. My focus lies in addiction recovery and trauma therapy, providing a haven for those who have experienced tough or traumatic events in the community or while serving our communities.

I specialize in substance use disorder, PTSD/EMDR therapy, LGBTQIA populations, and those that are experiencing anxiety, depression, and general stress.
When it comes to therapy, I try to make the process as applicable as possible for the client in order to make them feel comfortable. A lot of the clients I see are working on difficult transitions in life, such as grief and loss, coping with stress from daily life, or working through their past. The clients I see are all motivated to not let their past, daily stressors, or negative habits define who they are! We will work through these issues in order to gain awareness, generate acceptance, and then take appropriate action in order to get the most out of life. I will go at your pace to allow for both comfort and development.

The same drive that contributed to your success as an athlete can be applied to your mental health-so you can take control of risky behavior ( substance use/ addiction, etc.
Are you a high performing athlete or professional? Are you struggling with the pressures that come along with being a high performer? As an athlete or other high-performing professional, you are not immune to the barriers of life that everyone else faces. You get stressed, feel enormous pressure--"Am I good enough?", feel anxious, overwhelmed & sad. Have you been afraid of asking for help because that might be seen as weakness? And, instead of asking for help, maybe you used alcohol or drugs to cope with the normal stressors of life but you are finding that substances have made things worse, not better. It's time for a change.

What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.
How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.
How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.
How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
