Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists in Englewood, CO
I offer evidence-based therapies such as EMDR and ACT that target trauma and other negative experiences that may interfere with life.
Do you find it hard to trust in relationships, even when you’re in a good one? Or perhaps you experience the opposite, where you’re drawn to people who aren’t good for you. Many people aren’t aware of how much their childhood experiences affect them as adults. Unresolved trauma from the past can continue to impact your relationships with your partners, children, friends, and even co-workers. It can seep into other areas of your life as well, keeping you from progressing towards your personal and career goals. Fortunately, with the right support you can interrupt harmful patterns while healing the wounds that caused them.

I often utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT), and Solution-Focused techniques.
My philosophy comes from my personal experiences as a former college athlete and cancer survivor. Through these experiences I learned the power of perseverance and taking a “no surrender” approach. I believe each individual has an untapped reserve of inner strength. My hope is to help you find that for yourself, regardless of what you’re fighting.

My work with clients is rooted in resiliency and acceptance, and I offer a safe, compassionate, and open environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgement. I take a person-centered, strengths based approach to encourage and support clients in making positive changes so that they can live a meaningful life that aligns with their values. Starting therapy takes courage and vulnerability, both of which are a strength and instrumental to change. In my work with clients, I see my role as a partner to help them build on their courage while acknowledging the pain and distress they may be experiencing.

I utilize attachment theory to help get a better understanding of who you are while finding mindful emotional strategies through ACT work.
Are you finding your mind lives consistently in the future or stresses over the past? Are you finding yourself revisiting the same thoughts over and over? Sometimes it can feel like our brains are working against us and the more we try and fight, the more they win. Together we can explore ways to help you work through some of this difficulty while finding ways to feel joyful and fully present. My primary area of focus is working with clients on anxiety, parenting concerns, unhealthy coping skills like self-medicating and relationship issues.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
