In addition to clinical training as a generalist, I have specific training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing), Nutritional Psychology, Wellness Self Management (WSM and WSM+), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Anxiety and Anger Management, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
I specialize in working with individuals experiencing Trauma or other Trauma related disorders and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders (dual diagnosis). Therapy is a way of exploring current struggles and past issues to set us up for a successful future and subsequently enrich life. By integrating the mind, body, and spirit, my goal is to help others reach their individual potential and achieve a greater sense of purpose and meaning. I believe that clients who are encouraged, acknowledged, validated and held accountable can vastly improve their lives through psychotherapy.

I specialize in helping individuals and couples through holistic, integrative, and evidence-based styles such as Emotionally Focused Therapy, EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and others to help you understand your anxiety, relational patterns and get you unstuck.
Right now you may be feeling anxious, stressed, unhappy or full of self-doubt. Perhaps you are feeling stuck in your relationship, unsure about your career, or feeling disconnected from those you care about or lonely. Sometimes we feel at a loss of what step to take next or so overwhelmed with stress we can’t even make decisions. Too often, we have come to believe things about ourselves that are not true. I get it AND I can help. Together, we will work to heal those untrue beliefs and change the ways you feel about yourself so that you can live a joy-filled life and have the satisfying and loving relationships you want.

If you feel you mutually share *unfinished business* with your spouse or have difficulties in your family and interpersonal relationships, if you are experiencing anxiety in your body and worrying excessively, if you are depressed or have been abusing a variety of substances or on psych meds, please give me a call and go with your gut guided by reason.
I invite you to pause with me in this present space (intentionally) and take 2 deep and slow breaths from the abdomen (Back straight). What are you noticing in your body? What are these sensations (Dreams, Archetypes , Omens, Images, pain, fear, sadness etc.)? Where is it located in your body presently? Yes! the body keeps the score. It is a receptacle of programs in which we are oftentimes unaware we overlook; desensitized to its non -verbal wisdom. In fact, we generally weren't taught to slow down and pay attention to it during those crucial moments in our lives in which our self image and esteem are impacted..

No matter who we are or where we come from, we all deserve to live happy and fulfilling lives. Life is hard and can present us with emotional challenges we’re not sure how to process. The first step is asking for help. If you're going through the adoption process, are an adoptee (youth or adult), experiencing relationship issues (monogamous and non-monogamous), are of a marginalized community, or have a special needs child in the family, I'd love to help you process through the complex feelings that accompany your unique intersection of identities.

The Creative Arts Therapy Center of Denver (CATCOD) is a safe, inclusive and accepting space for people of all ages where we promote healing and support through psychotherapy. We offer individual, family and group evidence-based services provided by Licensed Professional Counselors. While we are skilled in traditional methods of verbal therapy and assessment, we are also expertly trained to incorporate artistic modalities when appropriate. Creative arts therapy is not dependent on the outcome of the art and there is no art experience necessary. Rather, art-making contributes to healing, holding and growing into our best selves.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I enjoy working with all populations, from individuals, couples, and families – no matter how you define these systems.
I believe we all deserve the opportunity to tell our story and have our story heard in an environment free of judgment. We are all unique in our own way, and I look forward to learning and listening to your story to better understand and support your needs, pains, and dreams. My theoretical approach combines narrative therapy and solution-focused therapy to encourage you to become the expert in your story while discovering a better sense of self-connection in a disconnected world.

I have been a therapist for 10 years in a variety of settings doing individual therapy with adults and teens as well as family therapy.
Sometimes we feel sad, lonely, anxious, scared, worried, angry or maybe even unsure exactly how we feel, but something feels off. Sometimes when we are really upset we start to feel physical symptoms in our bodies. Sometimes we can feel very irritable or even have outbursts of anger. Sometimes we just can’t stop thinking about something that happened and other times we don’t want to think about it at all. Sometimes we notice ourselves becoming disconnected from others or just not doing what we used to enjoy doing. Sometimes we can’t sleep even if we really want to and feel tired.

My formal educational training is a master's degree and licensure in counseling and marriage and family therapy.
I work collaboratively with people to help them create the lives they want -- in their relationships, families, recreation and work. This process of exploration and discovery is inspiring and taps into hopes, dreams and imagination through story and re-connecting and remembering memories and experiences of connection and joy in their lives. Clients who benefit most from working with me are usually bright, creative and interested in freeing themselves from the constraints of family, social and cultural expectations that have become internalized and held as truths. This is a way of finding your way home ... to where your heart is.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
