I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker that specializes in anxiety, depression, and trauma (PTSD). What we focus on will depend on your priorities, although I tend to think of my work as "working myself out of a job," with the expectation that you will get to the point where you won't need to see me anymore. I'm strongly influenced by mindfulness, stoicism, trauma-informed, and person-centered approaches.

Through this approach, I have witnessed many find solace and heal from issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, challenges in relationships, and even psychosis and schizophrenia.
It is my belief that we all have an innate desire to connect, feel heard, and be understood. My therapeutic approach is grounded in this belief, and it is my hope that we will create a meaningful therapy that is validating and encouraging, yet simultaneously challenging enough to be a catalyst for meaningful growth. Because change often occurs as a byproduct of a connected and understanding relationship, a critical task of therapy is to help you explore, understand, and challenge what meanings you have made of your experiences, and in so doing, facilitate a new experience of yourself or your relationships.

I aspire to create a safe place in the session where you will meet with a man where you can have an authentic conversation about your joys and struggles in life, and everything in between.
Do you find yourself trying to control outcomes in your relationships only to be met with more things to control? Do you feel the need to hide certain behaviors from the people in your life who care about you? Have you turned to alcohol, sex, gambling, pornography and high-risk behaviors to try to prove to yourself that you are capable, powerful and worthy of respect? Have you been wondering what healthy masculinity really looks like in today’s world? If so, you are not alone, far from it actually. I have worked with 1000s of men over that last ten years who have struggled with those same questions and behaviors.

As a fellow traveler in this hu man experience, as another person also doing that work—also continually striving to be and do better within my own intimate and personal relationships—I can genuinely say shifting out from disharmony into relational health, to foster the relationship that you and your partner desires, can be done.
I am passionate about working with couples—both those that may just be beginning their years together or those with already many years together—who are wishing to shift out of disconnection and disharmony, to foster the intimacy, passion, unity, and harmony each partner desires within the relationship.

Throughout different seasons in our life, it is easy to become stuck or become rigid in our personal life and in our relationships. This can make it difficult to adjust to the changing de mands of life. In counseling, we work to increase flexibility and adaptability in your life and relationships. As a pre-licensed marriage and family therapist, I have experience working with family systems, as well as individuals. I am rooted in attachment and emotional focused therapies for couples and families. I focus on creating a secure base, helping people identify the cycles of dysfunction, and building the bond between the couple.

Currently I have openings for Group Therapy (not for individual or couples). I am happy to refer you to trusted colleagues if you would like to chat about that. All our therapists track how effective we are - and we publish our results. That's what makes The Colorado Center for Clinical Excellence different. Our clinical focus is a "hybrid" approach combining Dialectical and Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Relational/Experiential therapy, primarily for the adolescent and emerging adult, but also working with adults, families and couples. Our clients struggle with regulating emotions, distress tolerance, core emptiness (confusion about oneself), as well as interpersonal conflict with frequent emotional chaos. Our time-limited, solution-focused technique is often sought to augment a person's existing individual therapy. Our approach is also effective in treating depression, self-injury, anxiety - focusing on coping skills. We are comprised of 4 licensed clinicians offering both individual, couple and group therapy.

I believe in a collaborative healing approach. Together, we identify areas of concern and develop strategies for change. I also believe in exploring the underlying causes of our struggles. My approach is varied, taking and blending techniques from a variety of sources, rather than relying on a single system of intervention. I strive to create a safe environment for my clients to explore their world in an authentic way. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with the State of Colorado.

You’re feeling stuck in a cycle of anxiety and depression, where every day feels like a struggle. Overwhelming worry, self-doubt, and persistent sadness make it hard to enjoy life or feel like yourself. You might be struggling at work, feeling disconnected from loved ones, or finding it tough to make even small decisions. Despite trying to manage on your own, things haven't improved, and you’re ready for a change. What you really want is to regain control, find relief from this emotional weight, and discover a path that feels hopeful and manageable.

Many of us were told to "suck it up" or move past our emotions, but that honestly ends up hurting more than helping us.
I tend to work best with clients who are eager to do some deeper or longer-term work. I'm a sensitive guy myself so I also tend to work well with people who are more sensitive in nature. I specialize in helping with attachment trauma, life transitions, religious trauma, addictions, as well as anxiety and depression. I help people learn about their emotions and the brain and then use that information to our advantage in sessions. A lot of the time that looks like simply creating

I use the Family Systems theory approach while identifying family of origin roles and patterns. Using a cognitive behavioral approach in helping clients identify thinking patterns that impact self-esteem and the choices one makes, I can guide you to new thought patterns that will raise the quality level of your life in many ways. Mood disorder therapy, including Bipolar Disorder and Major Depression, is a vital instrument for those affected. Medication assessment and management referral resources are available to compliment psychotherapy. Think in new ways, feel new emotions, live with a new view of you and your world.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
