Approaching 20 years of experience, I know these initial steps seeking support can be tense and uncomfortable. Rest easy knowing that when we meet for your initial session, you will enter a safe space you can relax into, free of judgement. Along with traditional psychotherapy approaches (psychodynamic, evidence-based and somatic therapies), I offer psychedelic assisted psychotherapy (ketamine assisted therapy), integration consultation, and psychedelic harm reduction care at my downtown Denver office suite. I work with individuals 14+ y/o into elderhood, who are seeking support in managing anxiety, grief, and trauma.

I work from a psychodynamic and existential-humanistic framework, also drawing from my training in attachment theory, mindfulness, third-wave cognitive-behavioral (ACT, EFT) and interpersonal therapies.
Welcome! I am a Stanford-trained clinical psychologist specializing in supporting growth-oriented, culturally-diverse individuals and couples who want to better understand themselves, how they relate to others and all of life. I help clients explore and develop greater meaning in their lives, foster deeper personal and professional connections, and experience and embody their most authentic selves. My style is warm, active, and genuine. I strongly believe in the importance of building an authentic and trusting relationship for therapy to be effective.

Approaches I use include person-centered, psychodynamic, trauma-focused, and mindfulness.
I believe that we all have important stories to tell. Sharing those impactful stories while working through the emotions and self beliefs tied to them can bring clarity, ease, and a sense of understanding. In my practice, I vow to hold a space of warmth, empathy, and unconditional acceptance for my clients to allow their stories and vulnerabilities to be heard and nurtured. I enjoy working with individuals who want to build awareness of patterns that they feel stuck in; and together, we will explore avenues of change.

As a multicultural practitioner I am integrally connected to various cultures which enable me to balance multiple perspectives, as I work with different people around diverse and complex issues; although I was educated according to traditional and psychodynamic viewpoints, my practice is to combine my formal training with holistic, trauma and social justice oriented techniques.
*Please note that I continue to be 100% distance based for the time being* It isn't always easy to reach outside of ourselves when we are feeling deeply lonely and experiencing extreme emotions. These are precisely the times, though, when it makes sense to try to find people with whom we can talk without too much fear of judgment or rejection. In my role as Therapist, I actively commit to strive to be one of those people; to meet you wherever you are emotionally, in a comfortable, confidential and respectful setting.

I have spent the last 3 years working with teenagers that have undergone trauma, and people who have been incarcerated. I work best with people who are having behavioral issues at school, work, or the home. You may have just had your first wake up call that something's got to change. I will help you get out of your own way and begin to like, even love, the person in the mirror. You will notice as soon as you address your own needs, that your relationships with others begins to improve. My ideal client is a lover on the inside, with a shell of armor on the outside.

I believe sex and relationships are the ultimate culmination of connection and vulnerability. This gives them the potential to be a source of actualization, despair and everything in between. I have found that my life purpose is to help others tap into the positive end of that spectrum of potential. Many clients who work with me are ready for their relationships to heal. They notice that they are stuck in the same unhealthy and unproductive patterns in their relationships or dating experiences. They feel motivated to improve their confidence and pleasure with intimacy, but they feel stuck in how to reach these goals on their own.

Life presents many challenges and often we can become stuck. Our lives and relationships sometimes get into a rhythm that doesn't work and in spite of our best efforts, we suffer. Making sense of our feelings, thoughts and patterns can be overwhelming. I bring compassion, expertise, curiousity and humor to explore current dynamics and unconscious processes. As we talk, you can find what is working for you and what isn't and gain a deeper understanding of yourself. There is hope. Therapy promotes growth and change and can bring relief for your suffering. I love my work and deeply value my clients.

Today's confused, often over-stimulating times can be depressing, certainly anxiety provoking. Core questions surface. Who am I? My "image" aka my socially acceptable self? Yes, but much more. How do I find out? Become the most creative, productive individual I can be? How do I get beyond the apathy and life's daily frustrations, step into the fire of my meant-to-be self? A "foray" is an excursion into the unknown, a stretch and reach for the new and undiscovered. Employing "emotional courage" as the fulcrum, we work hard together to make recovery and growth the adventures they are meant to be.

NEW; now offering 30 minute sessions for busy folks! Asking for help is hard. In a culture that expects independence and perfection it is difficult to admit we DON'T have all the answers and might need help. Clients say things like 'I have no idea what is wrong with me, my life is just fine but I think I might be depressed." Folks may be drinking too much, sleeping too little, resisting relationships, questioning career choices, or facing financial instability but whatever the issues, solutions are more easily found in a close therapeutic relationship.

You have felt pressure your whole life. Maybe it was pressure from your family: pressure to succeed, a parent’s expectations to live up to, a family culture where you never felt good enough, or pressure to be someone you were not. Or maybe you have put pressure on yourself: to make others happy (often sacrificing your own happiness), to never let others down, to always excel and achieve, or to not take up too much space in the world. You’re exhausted and you wish you could just turn off the noise in your head: the self-criticism, the worry, or the feelings of uncertainty. You want to feel free to live life on your terms.

You're looking for help because something isn't working and you want to understand what is keeping you stuck. I specialize in helping those struggling with depression, anxiety, complex trauma and disordered eating. Whatever you bring in, our first task will be to work together to find stable ground. We can then approach ourselves with curiosity, exploring the patterns, beliefs, and experiences you have developed in order to adapt and survive. Ultimately, this work will allow us to interpret the world from a new viewpoint with newly developed knowledge. Through this insight, we move toward experiencing increased peace and potential.

I work with children, adolescents and adults who are primarily dealing with anxiety, depression and relationship issues. Emotional health is as important as physical health. We work together to understand how to accomplish change. I work in medical and mental health settings with the belief that integrating feelings with appropriate behavior creates a more peaceful existence. This summer I will be offering psychotherapy with equine assistance for kids (individual and group treatment) ages 6-adolescents at Affinity Ranch in Parker, CO.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
