You don't understand your relationship to your sexual orientation as you once did. You’re wondering if you might be bi, but most of all you're feeling confused and your inner critic is loud (insert it yelling, "there's only straight or gay, pick a side!"). You really thought you knew yourself so questioning your sexual orientation is feeling like opening up a can of worms. The kicker is you’re already in a committed relationship. You're craving a safe space to explore and discover, but you're also worried if life as you know it will drastically change.

My specialty includes working with adolescents and their families who have experienced trauma. This includes adoption trauma as well as emotional and/or physical abuse. I am able to help both the adolescent and their family understand the affects of trauma on the brain and subsequent behaviors that ensue. I feel it is important to examine attachment issues as well as emotional regulation. I believe that through relationship the brain can be "rewired" to react to stressors in more effective ways. It would be my privilege to walk through this process with any adolescent who desires change.

You are looking to know yourself and be known on a very deep level. You identify patterns of feelings and behaviors that seem to be rooted in a space deep within yourself but quite out of reach: your unconscious. You surround yourself with people who somehow remind you of the past, and though you are hoping for a different outcome, you are hurt in the same way. You think that if you’d just meet the right person, all that’s buried deep within you would at last find its final resting place. You’d finally be invited to blossom into the person you were always meant to be. Does this sound like you?

There may be times when you feel you can benefit from having an objective, nonjudgmental, and caring person help you move forward. I work with many individuals who are experiencing anxiety, stress, sadness, or just feel confused or uncertain about the path they are currently taking. You may be in a difficult relationship or feel that your anxiety and fear are preventing you from getting what you really want out of life. Sometimes support and clarification can really empower and motivate you to make changes that lead to better mental and physical health. Therapy is a an incredible opportunity to believe in the power of yourself.

In my practice, I adopt a humanistic approach that places a strong emphasis on social justice and somatic work. I believe that as humans navigating our daily lives, our experiences are not solely cognitive but deeply felt within our bodies. Creating a safe space to delve into our inner awareness, understanding our narratives, and recognizing how our bodies respond to our experiences lays a foundation for our therapeutic journey. I weave together cognitive-behavioral therapy and body psychotherapy, informed by polyvagal theory, parts work, and attachment theory, all within an experiential framework.

Throughout my time as a professional, I have grown to understand the significance surrounding connecting childhood learnings and patterns to problems currently arising within my client’s world. I believe we can't change our current situations if we don't know what is driving the behavior or thought process. Starting at the source and establishing patterns and connections is vital in healing, growing, and creating new behaviors and ways of thinking. I often utilize DBT, CBT, attachment theory, and family systems models within the therapy space.

This world can be hard to live in, especially if you are a sensitive soul. You may find yourself turning to food, substances, or other means of avoidance in an effort to cope. You may feel shame because of your sensitivity, or the fact that everyone else seems to "have it together" and has figured out how to "adult," except for you. Maybe you're going through a life transition, and are feeling overwhelmed and uncertain of how to navigate the next steps. Or maybe you just need someone to listen and care about YOU, and your needs, for a change. I can help you.

So often our minds torment us by going over and over the same thoughts, memories, or images. In our culture we strive to be so high-functioning that we have no time for self-care and even struggle to get adequate sleep. Without any reprieve, anxiety can make the smallest tasks seem daunting and convince us that we must do it all and do it all perfectly! We find ourselves changing and not being the person we truly know ourselves to be. If you can relate, let’s talk!

Have you turned to therapy for some guidance? A helpful ear? Let’s work together to figure out why you are here, what you need out of therapy, and how I can support you. Weathering changes and difficult realities of life can be isolating and overwhelming, and you are brave to reach out for support. Whatever has brought you to consider therapy could create a powerful opening for growth and self-awareness. I aim to create a reliable container for a client-therapy relationship that benefits your growth.

I believe that your story, your pain, your difficulties and your joys all contribute to your unique self. We live in a world that would otherwise wish us to be more or less the same in order for the world to remain comfortable. What I believe my mission is, is to help you be more comfortable with YOU, your feelings, and with your story so that you may feel ALIVE. And that when you come alive, the world benefits from that gift. My work primarily focuses on the needs specific to women (though not limited), transitional phases of life, relationship issues, young adults and teenagers. We will laugh as much as we may cry. That is living.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
