Do you sometimes feel that your emotions are "too much" and others don't understand you? If you're grieving a loss or going through a life transition, do you find that family or friends aren't able to hold space for all that you're feeling and sorting through? Or maybe you're struggling in your faith and need a safe place to process your doubts and questions. Perhaps you've experienced religious trauma due to your sexual orientation or gender identification and are looking for a counselor who understands the "church world" but has no religious agenda. If any of the above resonates with you, I can help!

Are you struggling in your relationships? Are you seeking to feel accepted and like you belong? Relationships can feel stressful at times and they often highlight what we need from others. We may not always recognize what we need or know how to communicate it directly, but we are always striving to feel connected with others. When we do not feel heard or understood by someone we care about we often act out in anger or frustration to increase the chances of someone paying attention, and we can often feel guilt or regret for what we have said or done to the people we love. If you feel lonely, anxious, or depressed, you are not alone.

Great communication starts with a great connection. I have been working with individuals and couples since 2015, and I can help you move through and heal the hurt so you can get back to having a life of love and intimacy. It's really easy to fall into the trap of thinking that we are supposed to go it alone and having other people walking alongside us can feel vulnerable. Life is full of challenges; everything from parenting, to work stress, to finding the balance between work, life, and play. Things don't always need to be take overly seriously, and sometimes the best treatment is finding something to laugh about.

If you landed on this page, chances are you’re having a hard time in life. I see you. Maybe it feels like there’s a never-ending battle going on in your mind and you feel like you’re “spiraling” out of control. You literally feel exhausted by your overthinking and feel overwhelmed by the negative messages your brain is telling you. Perhaps your thoughts are saying that you’re not good enough–not a good enough parent, child, student, employee, or partner. I hear you. When you feel like you can’t take it anymore and are desperate for peace of mind, I am here for you.

This season of life doesn’t feel the way you expected it to. Maybe you’re in the throes of parenting and feeling overcome with “mom guilt” (despite how hard you work) or noticing your own childhood experiences impacting the way you parent. From the outside looking in, it may look like you have it all together, but inside you actually feel anxious, unmotivated, or just plain numb. Your relationships are struggling: it’s like you can’t focus or truly connect with the people closest to you. You believe life doesn’t have to stay this way, but you’ve reached a point where you don’t think you can do this on your own anymore.

Has talk therapy not been enough? Do you feel the pain, anxiety, and hurt are stuck in the body? You are not alone. Trauma & loss can take all different forms and sit in our body & mind in a variety of uncomfortable ways. In counseling survivors of sex trafficking, I have encountered difficult stories & complex trauma. After working overseas, I also can understand how hard transitions, feeling out of place & grief are. I take a trauma-informed & holistic approach. This means incorporating the emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of you while understanding the impact of the past.

The healing journey often feels isolating or overwhelming; my goal is to compassionately accompany you through your process, meeting you where you are. Together we will co-create an affirming space for you to delicately dive inwards, to identify and unravel the beliefs that no longer serve you, and embrace your whole self. We will explore emotions, thoughts, and experiences from a place of care and curiosity. Through this process, we will help you connect with the roots of your true self, and identify what supports can be put in place for you to grow and thrive.

If you're struggling with anxiety, I can help. We often are caught in patterns that were cemented at an early age, sometimes from our families, sometimes from cultural messages, sometimes we just don't know where these came from! I will work with you to explore those patterns and cultivate new narratives and behaviors that align with how you'd like to live and thrive in your life today.

There is a narrow margin between meeting the demands of our daily lives and becoming overwhelmed. As our lives require more and more of us, our resources of time, patience, and compassion can dwindle. If you are reading this because you are seeking help with rediscovering the person you want to be, I see you. I believe we are all doing our best. I also believe most of us come to a point in our lives when we realize the strategies we have learned aren't yielding the results in our lives we intended. My goal is for each person who leaves my office to understand themselves a little bit better and be a more authentic version of themself

You may keep parts of yourself or your relationship(s) hidden because you fear judgment from others. Perhaps shame and feelings of inadequacy keep you quiet while you ache to be seen, heard, and understood. Imagine a space where your authenticity and the uniqueness of your experiences are not only acknowledged, but celebrated. Whether you are seeking support around sensitive sex-related issues, aiming to break patterns in your relationship, or needing support as you navigate challenges associated with postpartum and/or parenthood, you are not alone and your experience is valid.

Currently accepting new couples and virtual clients. I combine my experience of working with individuals and families with my knowledge and passion for different evidence-based practices to help my clients achieve their goals. I believe that therapy works best when we're open to being challenged and held accountable towards breaking patterns that no longer serve us. All seriousness aside, I do truly enjoy getting to know my clients as people first and can guarantee a good laugh or two! Clients of mine have said that I am personable, easy to talk to and will provide a warm, supportive environment to foster growth.

Hi! Congratulations on taking this first step towards healing which I know can feel overwhelming. Trauma and stress can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and the world around us. I aim to provide a brave, empowering, and validating space to process present concerns and to reconnect with oneself, others, and feelings that you may have been told you cannot or should not feel. Our work together may include processing the ongoing stress of a chronic medical condition, coping with anxiety, recovering from past and/or current trauma, or learning to cope with the loss of a loved one.

I will do my best to listen carefully and closely, and speak back in ways that enhance your curiosity. In this collaboration, you will be able to discover more of who you are both to yourself, and to other people. You will find in me someone who respects all parts of you and challenges you. I understand that therapy is not easy, and will do my best to make you feel understood throughout the process.

If you are finding yourself on this site it may be that you are considering making some change in your life or looking for support for someone you love. The most important part in taking a step in therapy is feeling connected and safe with the clinician you are meeting. My name is Jessie Harris and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 10 years of experience in mental health practice. I received my masters degree from the University of Denver in 2015 and spent most of my professional experience working at the Children's Hospital Colorado's Eating Disorder Program as an individual and family therapist.

How do we learn to embrace our vulnerabilities & imperfections so we can engage in our lives from a place of authenticity and worthiness? How do we cultivate the courage, compassion, & connection that we need to recognize that we are enough - that we are worthy of love, belonging & joy? Life's transitions can be very anxiety provoking & scary -- even those that should be happy transitions, such as starting a family or a new job! My goal is to assist my clients to become skilled at how to navigate these transitions utilizing a blend of techniques and a large dose of humor!

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
