Although I have experience working with a variety of presenting problems, I also specialize in working with those struggling with depression and anxiety, life transitions, couples, and trauma or PTSD.
Change is hard. Either change happens to us (as with the Covid pandemic) and adapting can be difficult and painful, or we want change and making that happen can be overwhelming and challenging. I have several years of experience helping clients create change in the ways they are hoping for. I have worked with clients from various age groups, teens through older adults, and have assisted them with a wide range of presenting difficulties including: depression; anxiety; relationship struggles/couples; family dynamics; life transitions; parenting challenges; postpartum depression; and trauma.

As we learn to feel rather than avoid, we can also learn to respond differently to our emotions, reminders of trauma, and other challenging life circumstances.
Hello, and welcome! I am dedicated to partnering with you to create a life worth living in the midst of challenges and painful experiences. I provide a warm and nonjudgmental space to tap into your strengths, develop new insights and skills, understand and express your emotions, and truly love yourself. I believe we are designed to experience a range of emotions that provide information about our needs and values. We tend to feel stuck when we attempt to avoid our emotional experiences, leaving us depleted, hopeless, invalidated, and confused. I hope to meet you where you are as you heal and develop greater self-compassion.

I work with men and women who have endured past trauma and have trouble navigating work, relationships, and life on a day-to-day basis. Anger, rage, shame, addiction, anxiety, hiding, emotional cut-offs, broken relationships, isolation, and depression often come from a deeper pain and past trauma. We don't always have the words to address these issues or feel like we're "allowed to" have them. We can compartmentalize and focus on "just getting the next job done", but after a while we have to deal with our emotional pain as it may keep us from moving forward.

Having spent most of my career working with survivors of trauma, I won't be scared off by what you bring.
Let's be real, living in the world we live in is a challenge right now. Constant changes and stressors, most out of our control. Generational gaps causing rifts in families, work, and online. Navigating our world is difficult, yet you don't have to carry that weight alone. Maybe it's time to face the past so you can learn how to manage the future. Or do you want to better yourself and don't know where to start? Perhaps you're facing big changes in relationships or at work that are overwhelming. Whatever the challenges, let's face them together.

I believe most problems we experience are caused by a combination of two factors; carrying around too much from the past, and not taking good care of ourselves. The symptoms of Depression, Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Substance Abuse can all manifest from not cleaning up the past and from practicing poor self care in in the present. Using a variety of approaches including, Psychotherapy, Hypnosis, EMDR, and Process Work, we will together to shift this balance. As people get better at nurturing themselves and begin to let go of the weight of the past, they feel better.

“Change is the only constant in life.” -Heraclitus. This quote captures a significant principle in the human experience. Every single change and transition that we experience is both greivable and celebrateable. I am passionate about imparting support to motivated and engaged individuals, with a special focus on caregivers, first responders, veterans, lgbtqia+ folks, and individuals with alternative lifestyles. I aspire to provide culturally competent, trauma informed care to people in every stage of adulthood for change that they desire, or are coping with.

I specialize in trauma-informed care, psychological assessments, issues in intersectionality, couples counseling, culture-conscious counseling, and more.
I welcome all people who are interested in making improvements in their lives into the counseling space. Just as issues do not discriminate, I believe that my help should not either, nor have bounds. I pride myself in exercising every possible ounce of willpower I have to walk alongside clients in their growth process and help bring them towards the change they would like to see for themselves. Because the nature of hardship varies from person to person, my counseling approaches and enthusiasm are just as flexible to meet the unique concerns of the humans in front of me. You deserve to have someone care about who you are; I will.

I am also trained in Somatic Experiencing, which is a psychobiological approach to healing trauma, relieving chronic stress, and healing emotional wounds.
I hold a strong conviction that we all have the potential and the capacity to heal and to live happy and meaningful lives. Although we cannot change the past, we do have the power to change how we respond to the events in our lives, heal unresolved pain, let go of negative beliefs, and change the behaviors that may contribute to depression, anxiety, chronic illness, and difficulties in relationships. I can help you navigate this healing journey by providing both compassionate support and practical guidance to help you gain insight and to acquire tools to effectively address the challenges you are facing.

I work with clients within a holistic, trauma-informed framework that addresses the healing of the mind, body and spirit.
Authenticity is very important to me in the work that I do with clients. I take a human to human approach that delivers honesty with love. The therapeutic alliance is a sacred vessel where healing and transformation can occur. This sentiment drives nearly everything I do.

I am an AEDP and Emotionally-Focused therapist working with individual adults on transforming challenges with mood, relationships and trauma into flourishing. While we will have specific goals for therapy, ultimately my hope is that you feel more alive, authentic, connected, resilient and self-accepting. We start by building a safe and trusting environment within which vulnerabilities, difficult experiences and unhelpful patterns can emerge and new experiments in thinking, feeling and relating can be attempted. This takes courage, and it can feel risky to speak the truth, to embrace disowned feelings, even just to receive support.

My own experiences with trauma have shaped a very unique life experience that’s led me down an unconventional path to a career helping people who have similar lived-experiences.
Life is unpredictable and challenging. Whether due to a life changing event that occurs in the blink of an eye, or circumstances existing for years or even decades, inevitably we all experience periods in our lives where we feel overwhelmed, isolated, inadequate, depressed, anxious, or even broken. Often these feelings are the byproduct of stress or even trauma. If not properly managed, the effects of stress and trauma will eventually have a detrimental effect on our careers, and, more importantly, our personal relationships and families. In some cases, our personal relationships may actually be the source of the stress or trauma.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
