Virtual only! I live in TX. Clients who are struggling but wanting to not only heal, but also grow have the potential for being extremely powerful people. We have all gone through difficult times, experiencing anxiety, fear, depression, and hopelessness. However, if we have healed, we look back and see those times as hard, but some of the most powerful in our lives. Hearts can become strong, marriages can be healed and become euphoric, and our families can become strong, powerful, and beautiful. If you have a Christian background, I can help you become stronger in your faith. Executive Coaching available.

I work with men and wo men who have endured past trauma and have trouble navigating work, relationships, and life on a day-to-day basis. Anger, rage, shame, addiction, anxiety, hiding, emotional cut-offs, broken relationships, isolation, and depression often come from a deeper pain and past trauma. We don't always have the words to address these issues or feel like we're "allowed to" have them. We can compartmentalize and focus on "just getting the next job done", but after a while we have to deal with our emotional pain as it may keep us from moving forward.

Does a basic discussion turn into an all day argument?Do you feel like you are in a relationship with a stranger? Relationships, regardless of what kind, are the responsibility of both parties involved. Each relationship has its own fingerprints and no two are the same. I help couples along with individuals identify and resolve the underlying cause of their conflict whether it’s current or historic.

My ideal client is motivated to get better, but they don’t quite know how to get there. Perhaps their friends and family have given lots of advice, but no one has yet to take the time to REALLY get to know their situation before problem-solving a solution. It’s complicated. The ideal client is ready for a change, to take more control of their life, and they are excited to learn more about themselves. I want to walk with you at a pace that works for you and in a way that facilitates your growth and self-awareness.

Life is unpredictable and challenging. Whether due to a life changing event that occurs in the blink of an eye, or circumstances existing for years or even decades, inevitably we all experience periods in our lives where we feel overwhelmed, isolated, inadequate, depressed, anxious, or even broken. Often these feelings are the byproduct of stress or even trauma. If not properly managed, the effects of stress and trauma will eventually have a detrimental effect on our careers, and, more importantly, our personal relationships and families. In some cases, our personal relationships may actually be the source of the stress or trauma.

What I offer as a counselor is unrelenting compassion and warmth for other hu mans, and I believe that my clients feel that care and safety radiating when they're present in the shared counseling space.
I welcome all people who are interested in making improvements in their lives into the counseling space. Just as issues do not discriminate, I believe that my help should not either, nor have bounds. I pride myself in exercising every possible ounce of willpower I have to walk alongside clients in their growth process and help bring them towards the change they would like to see for themselves. Because the nature of hardship varies from person to person, my counseling approaches and enthusiasm are just as flexible to meet the unique concerns of the hu mans in front of me. You deserve to have someone care about who you are; I will.

As life progresses, we each encounter difficulties that create ripples in our lives. I aim to create a collaborative space in which to discuss the ways in which clients can experience change and feel empowered. Creating a non-judgemental space is crucial to me within the therapeutic environment, so that exploration of self can occur. I have had extensive clinical experience in identity formation, depression, coping, grief, comorbid mental health diagnoses, and anxiety. I enjoy developing a strong alliance with clients in order to facilitate a sense of growth.

Stressors related to work, relationships, medical conditions and other key areas of life occur every single day, and sometimes they may become overwhelming and out of control. Most of the time, we are able to help ourselves out of these types of situations, but there are times when it is too challenging to handle alone. When that happens, we often find ourselves stuck and unable to react, or continue to use solutions that may not be the best for us. It can be very draining and demotivating, and spiraling out of control. We sometimes want someone to find a solution for us, while at other times, we just want someone to listen to us.

I am an AEDP and Emotionally-Focused therapist working with individual adults on transforming challenges with mood, relationships and trauma into flourishing. While we will have specific goals for therapy, ultimately my hope is that you feel more alive, authentic, connected, resilient and self-accepting. We start by building a safe and trusting environment within which vulnerabilities, difficult experiences and unhelpful patterns can emerge and new experiments in thinking, feeling and relating can be attempted. This takes courage, and it can feel risky to speak the truth, to embrace disowned feelings, even just to receive support.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
