I offer an approach that is tailored to you and draws from various approaches, including EMDR, narrative therapy, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, client/person-focused therapy, SFBT, Somatic modalities, Mindfulness & yoga.
I believe everyone can benefit from therapy - from seeking support for a life transition; to exploring and healing trauma; to identifying and optimizing your patterns for greater satisfaction in your day to day life and relationships. We all thrive when we are seen and heard for who we truly are, in a non-judgmental and caring setting. I became a therapist because I am genuinely curious and interested in people, getting to know each person's unique experiences, and supporting them to heal and thrive. I strive to create a safe and welcoming space where you can feel comfortable to be yourself; allowing you to explore, grow and heal.

I believe most problems we experience are caused by a combination of two factors; carrying around too much from the past, and not taking good care of ourselves. The symptoms of Depression, Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Substance Abuse can all manifest from not cleaning up the past and from practicing poor self care in in the present. Using a variety of approaches including, Psychotherapy, Hypnosis, EMDR, and Process Work, we will together to shift this balance. As people get better at nurturing themselves and begin to let go of the weight of the past, they feel better.

EMDR, grounding, mindfulness, and finding words for what's really going on.
I work with men and women who have endured past trauma and have trouble navigating work, relationships, and life on a day-to-day basis. Anger, rage, shame, addiction, anxiety, hiding, emotional cut-offs, broken relationships, isolation, and depression often come from a deeper pain and past trauma. We don't always have the words to address these issues or feel like we're "allowed to" have them. We can compartmentalize and focus on "just getting the next job done", but after a while we have to deal with our emotional pain as it may keep us from moving forward.

In addition to the sacred container we create together, I also offer therapeutic value through mindfulness, CBT, self compassion work, an attachment lens, as well as EMDR, and "parts" work to gain a better understanding around behaviors or addictive processes that are in the way of being fully you!.
Perhaps, you grew up in a family or culture where your thoughts, emotions, or body were rejected. To be accepted in this world and find a place of "belonging; you ended up abandoning yourself in the process. Many of my clients come to me because they are seeking to find themselves again and reclaim their needs and desires.

I have earned my Level III certificate in the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM) for the treatment of Complex Trauma and am trained in EMDR.
I believe strongly in the power of the relationship in therapy and that in order for true healing to occur we must address the mind and the body. I therefore use a relational and trauma-informed, somatically oriented approach drawing primarily from NARM and EMDR in order to help clients identify and overcome barriers and reclaim their lives. My passion lies in helping individuals unravel the intricate threads of trauma in order to illuminate a path towards self-regulation and healthy relationships. My primary focus is treating individuals suffering from symptoms stemming from complex trauma, PTSD, and relational trauma.

I have an LPC, a Masters in Philosophy and I am trained in EMDR and Internal Family Systems.
Are you a high achieving, feminist woman who also struggles with perfectionism, worry and negative body image? Do you beat yourself up and never feel 'good enough'? Do you feel exhausted from trying to 'do' everything but then feel like you have no time for yourself? I get it--as women, we often carry so much and we worry about pleasing others at the expense of ourselves. Nothing is wrong with you. However, I also know what it's like on the other side. I am here to help you tend to your emotions, set boundaries, and live a more joy filled life. You are worthy of feeling free, empowered, confident and connected to yourself.

Hi, my name is Rivers. I’m a psychotherapist who’s primarily influenced by the contemplative, existential, and psychoanalytic movements in psychology. I believe wholeheartedly in what is known in psychoanalysis as “the talking cure.”

I specialize in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy ( EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and relationally-focused modalities.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in anxiety, EMDR, trauma, relationship issues, and grief/loss. We all get stuck sometimes and I am here to help you get unstuck. That could look like helping you break cycles that are no longer serving you, process past events or wounds, or quiet that self-critical voice. My goal is that you’ll feel accepted and understood when you meet with me as I am open-minded, compassionate, and down-to-earth. I believe some things in life can be too difficult to move through alone and we need someone else, a caring, supportive, and non-judgmental presence to help us find our way through.

My post graduate training includes: IFS Level 2, IFS Healing Circles, Somatic Experiencing advanced year, and EMDR level 1 & 2.
Life can feel exhausting and stressful. Sometimes it all feels like too much, other times you feel like “too much”. The weight of your feelings can be so overwhelming that you cope with substances, food, distraction, or anything else so you don’t have to feel. You desperately want to be understood and need to be supported but you have a hard time allowing yourself to be vulnerable enough to truly allow someone in to your world. You can rarely trust yourself, let alone trusting someone else with your deepest feelings. You feel broken and that there is something wrong with you.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
