You have always been an overachiever, and while you know you're an overachiever and people tell you all the time to cut yourself a break, you just can't do it! Then, there's the job stuff. Why is it that every boss out there is so weird? Why is there always someone on the team who's a "problem child?" And why doesn't any job feel quite right?

Seeking therapy is less about ‘fixing’ ourselves and more about learning to acknowledge discomfort. This is so we can unlock barriers that may be getting in the way of living the life we want. We learn to give ourselves permission to heal and grow because we are worth it, though we do not always believe this. Whether you are navigating shame and self-judgement, anxiety or depression, the effects of trauma, or craving a deeper connection with yourself and others, my therapy style is that of a deep commitment to holding space for you to explore, and when you feel ready, heal discomfort and connect to your true self.

I understand that the world is a scary place. Sometimes, it feels like there’s more change than stability, and as a teen or twenty-something…well, that change can seem like an on-going, constant in our every day lives. On top of it all, you’re also constantly hearing the many voices around you that claim to know what’s best, yet they’re somehow all saying different things. In the midst of this chaos, it might even feel like you sometimes have to make a choice: You can be your full, authentic, vibrant self, or you can keep your head down, try to fit in, and do your best to please all of those voices telling you who to be.

A strong therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of healing and growth. My passion lies in creating a safe, positive space where adolescents can openly share their thoughts and feelings, learn to navigate life's challenges, and develop resilience. I understand that the current climate, with its social distancing and remote learning, has taken a toll on many young people, leading to increased anxiety, depression, and even substance use. These struggles often ripple through the entire family, creating stress and disconnection. That's why I offer both individual therapy for adolescents and coaching sessions for parents.

Are you a Millenial or Gen-Xer who is functioning pretty well, but struggling with some anxiety or depression? Or maybe life transitions or relationship issues are causing some stress. Sound like you? Here's how we can help. The number one thing I hear from people who have tried therapy in the past is this: "I liked my therapist, but I often times left our session wondering what I was getting out of it...I felt like I was the only one talking the entire session." This is why the therapists at Thrive take a more modern approach. We are not a "blank slate." We know that our clients are coming to us for tangible feedback and support.

My goal is to support my clients on their journey to be true to their most authentic selves. I strive to create a safe space for you to express yourself and am also going to hold you accountable to do your work and move forward in the direction of your values. We all know someone who needs professional help. It is clear to you and others that they are not healthy, they are sabotaging their life through a slow form of suicide. Typically this looks like heavy drinking, and/or drug abuse which then is reflected in their personal and professional relationships. Through an intervention by Belina, a clinician of over 25 years, you can get effective help. When a team of loved ones, plus a facilitator such as a seasoned clinician, gathers, change can begin. Call soon, no time should be wasted.

Deciding to seek therapy can be a daunting task and I believe that having a safe space to process your unique experiences is the key to reducing the anxiety that can accompany starting therapy, and promote personal growth and healing. I believe therapy should be a collaborative experience and we should work together to achieve your personal goals.

Finding yourself in destructive patterns and using unhelpful behaviors to cope can make you feel isolated and alone. Knowing you are different from others and wondering how to navigate everyday situations is exhausting and debilitating. Being neurodivergent in a world built for neurotypical people can lead to depression, anxiety, trauma, burnout, and substance use just to name a few. With the weight of everything all at once you can feel trapped and hopeless. No matter what you are struggling with, you deserve to be fiercely advocated for and supported in a way that honors your unique humanness.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
