We will utilize inner child healing (and other parts too!), somatic awareness, EMDR, and your spirituality to regulate your nervous system, process and release stored trauma, and connect you to your intuition so you can cultivate a sense of self-acceptance.
You’re self aware, but the intensity of your emotions often seems to win out. You are committed to growth and deepening your self-knowledge but find yourself either stuck in the depths of your emotions or unable to connect with them at all. You desire secure relationships, but instead experience anxiety or detachment and can’t seem to shake feelings of shame. Now, you feel ready to process the more hidden aspects of yourself that you had to push aside just to get by. You want to increase your capacity for connection to yourself and to others, so you can find more safety in your body, your relationships, and in the world.

Traditional talk therapy not helping with your OCD symptoms? Many with OCD feel overwhelmed and isolated, struggling to break free from relentless worries. This cycle of doubt can lead to exhaustion and frustration, making it hard to focus on what matters. The right treatment is essential to break free and reclaim the joy in your life.

Trauma, abuse, & grief can greatly impact how we function on a day to day basis. Everyone's experiences are unique & individual. Through counseling, we can explore different modalities & evidenced based research to locate the roots of this confusion and frustration.

I often hear parents say things such as “I love my child but I don't enjoy being around them anymore” or “I can’t get any alone time because my child always needs to be with me”. Do you ever wish there was a manual for parenting? Have you tried everything but nothing seems to work to manage their behavior or anxiety? Does your child have a chronic health condition that is becoming overwhelming to manage? Maybe parenting is confusing and no longer feels fulfilling. You’re in the right place. You’ve already taken a step toward feeling confident in parenting and managing the challenges of life.

My therapeutic style is rooted in my belief of our human potential to reflect, relate, learn, and grow. I help adolescents and adults with self discovery through life transitions. Life transitions are common and often support is helpful; whether that is a new relationship, big move, adolescence to adulthood, school or career path, or if you are experiencing new, unexpected emotions in your life. I understand that these moments can be both exhilarating and daunting, and I am committed to providing the necessary tools and support to navigate them confidently.

Yes, I've got my favorite techniques, EMDR, parts work, and a bit of DBT.
When was the last time you felt safe? When you could really relax, and not worry about anything? Sometimes, the impacts of trauma are clear. The constant tension, panic, nightmares... Other signs of trauma can be trickier to recognize. Maybe you feel like you always have to be perfect. Maybe you don't know how to let yourself be vulnerable around others. Trauma can make it hard to speak up for yourself, can convince you that you are unlovable, or drive you to serve others while ultimately neglecting yourself. It can even make you sick or feel pain. Healing from trauma IS possible. It would be my privilege to help you learn how.

We also provide EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) to target and clear specific traumas that may be contributing to current anxiety or sadness.
We understand the challenge of knowing that your child is suffering (through symptoms of anxiety, sadness, aggression, defiance and/or low self esteem) but not knowing exactly how to support them. Our team of therapists (based in Denver, Dallas, and Atlanta) support highly sensitive and gifted children, as well as their parents, in addressing patterns that are holding them back from their greatest potential. In addition to having deep understanding of the sensitive child, our therapists are trained to support ADHD, oppositional defiance, post traumatic stress, and attachment trauma. I use EMDR to help process any past trauma/distress, and hold a trauma-informed lens.
Therapy is a shared journey that requires trust and investment on both ends. I know that this kind of trust can take time to build. As such, I will always offer patience, understanding, and an open mind regarding anything that may be on your path. I will also always welcome your questions, curiosities, and critiques, and strive to respond in an open, honest, and direct manner. As a counselor, I recognize that our social locations and differing experiences affect our perspectives and approaches to the world, and I hold this in mind as I work with clients.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
